The unidentified TeV gamma-ray source MGRO J1908+06/HESS J1908+063 was observed with the VERITAS Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Array during October 2007 and May-June 2008. This extended source is located on the galactic plane at a galactic longitude of 40.45 degrees and has a hard TeV spectrum with an index of Γ≈2.08 [1]. The Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-ray flux was measured by H.E.S.S. out to...

We report on our analysis of a 20 ks Chandra X-ray observation of the quasi-persistent neutron star soft X-ray transient (SXT) 1M 1716−315 in quiescence. Only one source was detected in the HEAO-1 error region. Its luminosity is 1.6 × 1032–1.3 × 1033 erg s−1. In this, the range is dominated by the uncertainty in the source distance. The source spectrum is well described by an absorbed soft spec...

We report the first detailed X-ray and optical observations of the medium-distant cluster A33 obtained with the Beppo-SAX satellite and with the UH 2.2m and Keck II telescopes at Mauna Kea. The information deduced from X-ray and optical imaging and spectroscopic data allowed us to identify the X-ray source 1SAXJ0027.21930 as the X-ray counterpart of the A33 cluster. The faint, F2−10 keV ≈ 2.4×1...

We report the detection of a point source CXO J172337.5-373442 in a Chandra field with a high significance (26.7σ), and the discovery (4σ) of a 48 long X-ray tail emanating from the point source. The X-ray spectra of both the point source and the tail are well described with a single absorbed powerlaw, and the tail is harder (powerlaw index Γ = 0.14 −0.68) than the point source (Γ = 1.78 +0.13 ...

During a systematic search for periodic signals in a sample of ROSAT PSPC light curves, we discovered ∼ 8.9 s X–ray pulsations in 2E0050.1–7247, a variable X–ray source in the Small Magellanic Cloud. The source was detected several times between 1979 and 1993 at luminosity levels ranging from ∼ 5 × 10 erg s up to 1.4 × 10 erg s with both the Einstein IPC and ROSAT PSPC. The X–ray energy spectru...

The potential to use x-ray transition radiation (XTR) as a beam diagnostic and coherent XTR (CXTR) as a gain diagnostic in an x-ray FEL was proposed previously. At that time we noted that the unique configuration of the SLAC Sub-picosecond Photon Source (SPPS) with its known x-ray wiggler source, a special three-element x-ray monochromator, x-ray transport line, and experimental end station wit...

We present a study of the unidentified gamma-ray source 3EG J0542+2610. This source is spatially superposed to the supernova remnant G180.0-1.7, but its time variability makes unlikely a physical link. We have searched into the EGRET location error box for compact radio sources that could be the low energy counterpart of the gamma-ray source. Although 29 point-like radio sources were detected a...
