Background: The main result of hearing impairment is reduction of speech perception. Patient with auditory neuropathy can hear but they can not understand. Their difficulties have been traced to timing related deficits, revealing the importance of the neural encoding of timing cues for understanding speech. Objective: In the present study psychoacoustic perception (minimal noticeable differen...

Forty female clerical workers were randomly assigned to a control condition or to 3-hr exposure to low-intensity noise designed to simulate typical open-office noise levels. The simulated open-office noise elevated workers' urinary epinephrine levels, but not their norepinephrine or cortisol levels, and it produced behavioral aftereffects (fewer attempts at unsolvable puzzles) indicative of mot...

Low frequency noise of current and light intensity of ultraviolet light emitting diodes LED with wavelength from 265 to 340 nm are the superposition of the 1/ f and generation-recombination noise. The dependence of generation-recombination noise on the LED current has a maximum caused by a relatively shallow trap level in the quantum well. The upper bound of this trap level concentration is est...

Although no specific role has been demonstrated for ethylene during Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis, recent results suggest its participation in the regulation of the AM. Analysis of arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization in the abscisic acid (ABA)-deficient tomato sitiens mutant has shown that ABA deficiency induced ethylene production. It has also been suggested that one of the mechanisms ...

Background and aims: Noise is one of the harmful parameters of the industrial environments. It affects the human health in different aspects including harmful effects on hearing damage, vision, neurological and psychiatric, hormones, physiological and mental systems. Paying attention to the importance of hormonal effects on human body, the aim of the present study is to investigate the effects ...

conclusion vr reconstruction for both single-direction images and sushi using dti25 raw data provides excellent 3d displays of the peripheral nerves in the wrist region. sushi post-processing is a useful denoising tool because it automatically reduces the majority of isotropic object noise. results single-direction vr reconstruction clearly showed the nerves for both dti6 and dti25 but with obv...

Networks of neurons in the cerebral cortex operate in regime that are typically characterized by high levels of ‘noise’. Contrary to many sources of noise in physical systems, the neuronal noise is generated for the most part internally, through the highly irregular nature of neuronal discharges, in awake animals in particular. It is still highly debated how neurons and populations of neurons m...

We investigate self-seeded optical sources for interferometric sensing applications and show that they can, depending on optical filter bandwidth, provide high-output power, high wavelength temperature stability (<5 ppm/°C), low relative intensity noise (<-140 dBc/Hz) and low coherence lengths (<100 um). We characterize the key performance indicators for a range of optical filter bandwidths and...

A novel velocity-matched distributed balanced photodetector with a 50coplanar waveguide output transmission line has been experimentally demonstrated in the InP/InGaAs material system. Distributed absorption and velocity matching are employed to increase the saturation photocurrent. A commonmode rejection ratio greater than 27 dB has been achieved. The radio-frequency (RF) link experiment condu...

We propose a method of suppressing the relative intensity noise caused by polarization-dependent gain that is inherent to Raman polarizers (RPs). This method involves bit-synchronously scrambling the state of polarization of a pulse (bit) before the pulse enters the RP. The proposed solution works for RPs operating in a depleted regime and is compatible with multichannel configurations.
