A 1-year-old girl had cyanosis and signs of a "normal heart". Peripheral contrast echocardiography (M-mode and real time, two-dimensional) was performed with injection of saline into a superficial vein of the right hand. Contrast echoes did appear in the left atrium and ventricle, but did not in the right artium or ventricle. From these findings anomalous drainage of the right superior vena cav...

We report a case of angiosarcoma of the heart, manifested as a continuous murmur. Right coronary arteriography disclosed a paracardiac mass with fistulas from the coronary vessel to the right atrium. Histologic study revealed this to be an angiosarcoma with sinusoidal pattern. To our knowledge, this is the first case of this kind of cardiac tumor presenting as a fistula from a coronary artery t...

Most cases of cardiac metastasis from renal cell carcinoma (RCC) involve the vena cava or right atrium. Left ventricular metastases from RCC without involving the vena cava or right atrium are extremely rare. Herein we report a case of RCC with left ventricular metastasis causing left ventricular outflow obstruction (LVOT).

Right atrium aneurysms are entities which are rarely reported in cardiologic practice, especially in intrauterine life, and may be mistaken with pericardial effusion and Ebstein's anomaly. We show a review of the literature and illustrate with a case of prenatal diagnosis of right atrium aneurysm running through with hydropsy signs.

INTRODUCTION Primary cardiac angiosarcoma is the most common primary sarcoma in adults between the 3rd and 4th decades of life. Nearly 90% of angiosarcomas occur in the right atrium, which is responsible for the late onset of symptoms. CASE PRESENTATION We presented a 56-year-old woman admitted to our center with lung emboli symptoms. Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography (TTE an...

We report a case of typical counterclockwise atrial flutter (AFL) with conduction block from right to left atrium along the coronary sinus (CS) musculature, confirmed by discontinuous CS activation sequence during pacing near the ostium and differential right atrial pacing. AFL was associated with an atypical flutter wave morphology, due to the detour of the activation wavefront from right to l...

Echocardiographic features of a patient with sinus of Valsalva aneurysm rupture into the right atrium are described. The aneurysm presented as a dense echo-producing mass in the right atrium which descended into the tricuspid orifice during diastole and withdrew back into the atrium during ventricular systole. Pulmonic valve exho motion demonstrated early diastolic pulmonic valve opening indica...

A 49-year old woman with a history of hysterectomy 4 years previously was found to have intravenous leiomyomatosis. Enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed that the tumour had reached the right atrium from the right iliac vein through the inferior vena cava. (Fig. 1) The tumour was successfully removed by a single-stage operation (Fig. 2). Figure 1: Multi-detector CT showed the tumour arisin...

A 2-year-old boy with acute lymphoblastic leukemia was presented with peripherally inserted central catheter dysfunction. Radiological examinations revealed a catheter remnant in the right atrium extending into pulmonary vein. The catheter remnant was successfully removed from the right atrium by percutaneous endovascular intervention without any complications.

Hyperthyroidism has been associated with atrial fibrillation (AF); however, hyperthyroidism-induced ion channel changes that may predispose to AF have not been fully elucidated. To understand the electrophysiological changes that occur in left and right atria with hyperthyroidism, the patch-clamp technique was used to compare action potential duration (APD) and whole cell currents in myocytes f...
