The optimal treatment strategy for relapsed natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL) remains largely unknown. We retrospectively reviewed the treatment modalities and prognosis of 56 relapsed NKTCL patients. Chemotherapy was the initial salvage treatment, followed by radiotherapy (RT) or autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) as consolidative therapy, depending on the status o...
External beam radiotherapy is a potential salvage or adjuvant therapy after radical prostatectomy (RP). The purpose of this study was to investigate the treatment outcome of salvage radiotherapy (RT) following RP for clinically localized prostate cancer and to identify factors that may predict the outcome of salvage RT. Between 2000 and 2006, 41 patients received salvage RT because of increasin...
BACKGROUND Patients with recurrent medulloblastoma (MB) have a dismal prognosis. There has been a reluctance to use radiation in the salvage therapy regimens for these patients because of concerns about toxicity and unknown efficacy. Comparing survival outcomes and toxicities in relapsed patients treated with and without radiation may help to define its role. METHODS A retrospective review wa...
OBJECTIVES The benefits of salvage resection for lung cancer recurrence following high-dose curative-intent chemoradiation therapy are unclear. We assessed survival after salvage lung resection following definitive chemoradiation. METHODS Medical records of patients undergoing lung cancer resections at our institution following definitive chemoradiation therapy were reviewed from June 2006 to...
BACKGROUND Anal cancer treatment has evolved from abdominoperineal resection to chemoradiotherapy, which allows for sphincter preservation. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to develop an accurate model and nomogram to predict overall survival and the probability of salvage abdominoperineal resection for anal cancer patients. DESIGN This is a retrospective cohort study. SETTINGS Data we...
Testicular cancer is a highly curable cancer. However, 30% of patients are refractory to standard therapy and will need additional therapy. This article focuses on the use of high-dose chemotherapy in germ-cell tumors. High-dose chemotherapy use is discussed both in the refractory setting and as either first-salvage or first-line therapy. Various criteria for risk assessment are also discussed.
