Second order total variation (SOTV) models have advantages for image reconstruction over their first order counterparts including their ability to remove the staircase artefact in the reconstructed image, but they tend to blur the reconstructed image. To overcome this drawback, we introduce a new Tensor Weighted Second Order (TWSO) model for image reconstruction. Specifically, we develop a nove...

Abstract A second-order accurate lattice Boltzmann model is presented for nonNewtonian flow. The non-Newtonian nature of the flow is implemented using a power law model. This is used to enable the accuracy of the model to be assessed and is not a limitation of the model. The second-order accuracy is demonstrated for a range of power law model parameter values representing shear thinning and she...

Natural extension is a powerful tool for combining the expert judgments in the framework of imprecise probability theory. However, it assumes that every judgment is “true” and this fact leads to some difficulties in many applications. Therefore, a second-order uncertainty model is considered in the paper where probabilities on the second-order level are taken by using the imprecise Dirichlet mo...

This paper presents the first computational cognitive model of second-order social reasoning. The model uses a decision tree strategy to reason about the opponent’s behavior. We hypothesize that a decision tree strategy requires (1) declarative memory, and (2) working memory. Declarative memory is required to retrieve successive reasoning steps, while working memory is required to temporarily s...

In this paper, existence and solution of the feedforward plus feedback control law for model reference control of a class of second-order dynamic systems are investigated. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the controllers is established. Based on a result of parametric eigenstructure assignment in second-order dynamic systems, general complete parametric expressions for ...

In order to analyze the back of hand vein pattern rapidly and effectively, a novel approach based on multi-scale second-order differential model is proposed to extract the vein texture from vein samples directly, which is made up of two section: one is the foundation of local second-order differential model of vein texture (VLSDM), the other is texture extraction based on the multi-scale VLSDM....

In this paper we complement our recent result on the explicit formula for the planar limit of the free energy of the two–matrix model by computing the second and third order observables of the model in terms of canonical structures of the underlying genus g spectral curve. In particular we provide explicit formulas for any three–loop correlator of the model. Some explicit examples are worked out.

This article deals with the modelling of a road network from a macroscopic point of view. After an introduction explaining how some macroscopic road network models are established, some basic properties of the Aw & Rascle second order model are recalled. A junction model compatible with the Aw & Rascle model is then established and some examples are presented in order to illustrate the plausibi...

This paper presents two stochastic filters considering autoregressive models of first and second order for parameter estimation and system identification. Each model is applied to a reference of the corresponding order and their recursive and non-recursive estimation results are compared; obtaining their error functional values to determine their performance. Due to the recursive methods give b...

Genetic/transcriptional regulatory interactions are shown to predict partial components of signaling pathways, which have been recognized as vital to complex human diseases. Both activator (A) and repressor (R) are known to coregulate their common target gene (T). Xu et al. (2002) proposed to model this coregulation by a fixed second order response surface (called the RS algorithm), in which T ...
