Two zinc(II) phthalocyanines bearing either four methoxy (ZnPc 3) or trifluoromethylbenzyloxy (ZnPc 4) substituents have been synthesized by a two-step procedure starting from 4-nitrophthalonitrile. Absorption and fluorescence spectroscopic studies were analyzed in different media. These compounds are essentially non-aggregated in the organic solvent. Fluorescence quantum yields (phi(F)) of 0.2...

Published evidence demonstrates successful induction and elicitation of respiratory hypersensitivity in guinea pigs by the known human respiratory allergens trimellitic anhydride (TMA) and diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate (MDI). From these data it is apparent that TMA-related respiratory hyperresponsiveness can be elicited readily in guinea pigs upon inhalation challenge with the free chemical...

BACKGROUND The allergenic profile of patients hypersensitive to pollen pan-allergens, profilin and polcalcin, has received little attention so far. OBJECTIVE To detect whether hypersensitivity to profilin and polcalcin follows sensitization to specific allergen sources or represents a primary phenomenon, and to examine the sensitization profiles of patients hypersensitive to pollen pan-allerg...

Near-IR (NIR) absorption from a Cd(ii) texaphyrin (TXP) has been successfully coupled with rubrene triplet acceptors/annihilators in vacuum degassed dichloromethane to upconvert NIR (670-800 nm) incident photons into yellow fluorescence through sensitized triplet-triplet annihilation. Stern-Volmer analysis of dynamic energy transfer quenching of TXP by rubrene using transient absorption spectro...

In earlier observations with the picryl system, it was concluded that contact sensitivity was a form of delayed (cellular) hypersensitivity to conjugates of sensitizer with autologous proteins indistinguishable in its immunological mechanism from other classical forms of delayed hypersensitivity to proteins. This conclusion has been confirmed and extended with the picryl and chlorbenzoyl chlori...

Four D-π-A sensitizers comprising a thienyl-diketopyrrolopyrrole (ThDPP) bridge were synthesized and tested in iodide/triiodide liquid electrolyte DSC devices. The dye series was strategically designed to develop a structure-property relationship. The best performing sensitizer utilized a phenyl-based anchor and triphenylamine donor (η = 5.03%).

To resolve the biggest problem in visible-to-UV photon upconversion based on sensitized triplet-triplet annihilation-the quenching of upconverted fluorescence by sensitizers-we discovered a superior sensitizer with less UV absorption intensity that enables highly efficient, low-power (0.78 mW cm(-2)) visible-to-UV upconversion.

The cellulosic fabrics bearing the porphyrin as a photo-sensitizer were done in order to prepare efficient polymeric materials for antimicrobial applications. The obtained porphyrin-grafted cellulosic fabrics were characterized by ATRFTIR, DRUV spectroscopy, TG and SEM image. The antimicrobial activity of the products was tested under visible light irradiation against Staphylococcus aureus, Pse...

The phosphorescence intensity of unilamellar DOPC vesicles with embedded Tb(3+)-cholate complexes depends on the concentration of dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN) as sensitizer in solution. This was used to monitor the enzymatic conversion of DHN esters or DHN glucosides by enzymes in aqueous buffered solution.
