We use a new version of the Definability Theorem of Beth in order to unify classical Theorems of Yuri Matiyasevich and Jan Denef in one structural statement. We give similar forms for other important definability results from Arithmetic and Number Theory. A.M.S. Classification: Primary 03B99; Secondary 11D99.

In this paper, we give novel and more liberal notions of operational and equational conservativity for language extensions. We motivate these notions by showing their practical application in existing formalisms. Based on our notions, we formulate and prove meta-theorems that establish conservative extensions for languages defined using Structural Operational Semantics (SOS).

In this article we present a structural characterization of graphs without K5 and the octahedron as a minor. We introduce semiplanar graphs as arbitrary sums of planar graphs, and give their characterization in terms of excluded minors. Some other excluded minor theorems for 3-connected minors are shown.

West Nile virus (WNV) was detected in the United States in 1999, has reoccurred every summer since, and has become endemic. Transfusion transmission was documented in 2002, and screening of blood donations for WNV began in 2003. We investigated genetic variation of WNV in human isolates obtained from specimens collected from 30 infected blood donors who tested positive for WNV RNA during 2002-2...

Recent studies indicate that variation in the sun's luminosity is less than that observed in many other stars of similar magnetic activity. Current findings also indicate that in more active stars, the attenuation by faculae of sunspot luminosity modulation is less effective than in the sun at present. The sun could thus become photometrically more variable (and dimmer) if its magnetic activity...

Emmer wheat, Triticum dicoccon schrank (syn. T. dicoccum (schrank) schÜbl.), is one of the earliest domesticated crops, harboring a wide range of genetic diversity and agronomically valuable traits. The crop, however, is currently largely neglected. We provide a wealth of karyotypic information from a comprehensive collection of emmer wheat and related taxa. In addition to C-banding polymorphis...

Low-copy repeats (LCRs) constitute 5% of the human genome. LCRs act as substrates for non-allelic homologous recombination (NAHR) leading to genomic structural variation. The aim of this study was to assess the potential of Fiber-FISH for LCRs direct visualization to support investigations of genome architecture within these challenging genomic regions. We describe a set of Fiber-FISH experimen...

this article is devoted to two theorems on tangent circles, which were discovered by the iranian geometer abu sah?l kuhi (fourth century h.). the two theorems were inspired by the book of lemmas (makhudhat) attributed to archimedes. kuh?'s original treatise is lost, but the two theorems are found in nas??r al-d? ntu?s?'s edition of the lemmas of archimedes. they then appeared in latin...

We describe here the genome sequencing and annotation of Weissella ceti strains WS74 and WS105, isolated from diseased rainbow trout in Brazil. The two genomes were sequenced with an Ion Torrent personal genome machine (PGM) using a fragment library. The genomes of strains WS74 and WS105 consist of circular chromosomes 1,389,513 bp and 1,390,396 bp long, respectively, both presenting a G+C cont...

BACKGROUND The amount of DNA comprising the genome of an organism (its genome size) varies a remarkable 40 000-fold across eukaryotes, yet most groups are characterized by much narrower ranges (e.g. 14-fold in gymnosperms, 3- to 4-fold in mammals). Angiosperms stand out as one of the most variable groups with genome sizes varying nearly 2000-fold. Nevertheless within angiosperms the majority of...
