A major part of the interactions involved in the assembly and stability of icosahedral, positive-sense single-stranded RNA (ssRNA+) viruses is electrostatic in nature, as can be inferred from the strong pH- and salt-dependence of their assembly phase diagrams. Electrostatic interactions do not act only between the capsid coat proteins (CPs), but just as often provide a significant contribution ...

The nucleosome core particle (NCP) is the basic building block of chromatin. Nucleosome-nucleosome interactions are instrumental in chromatin compaction, and understanding NCP self-assembly is important for understanding chromatin structure and dynamics. Recombinant NCPs aggregated by multivalent cations form various ordered phases that can be studied by x-ray diffraction (small-angle x-ray sca...

Nucleosomes, basic units of chromatin, are known to show spontaneous DNA unwrapping dynamics that are crucial for transcriptional activation, but its structural details are yet to be elucidated. Here, employing a coarse-grained molecular model that captures residue-level structural details up to histone tails, we simulated equilibrium fluctuations and forced unwrapping of single nucleosomes at ...

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)/ErbB family of receptor tyrosine kinases includes oncogenes important in the progression of breast and other cancers, and they are targets for many drug development strategies. Each member of the ErbB family possesses a unique, structurally uncharacterized C-terminal tail that plays an important role in autophosphorylation and signal propagation. To d...

We present N-body simulations of globular clusters, in orbits around the Galaxy, in order to study quantitatively and geometrically the tidal effects they encounter. The clusters are modelised with multi-mass KingMichie models (Michie 1963), including mass segregation at initial conditions. The Galaxy is modelled as realistic as possible, with three components: bulge, disk and dark halo. The ma...

The role of each histone tail in regulating chromatin structure is elucidated by using a coarse-grained model of an oligonucleosome incorporating flexible histone tails that reproduces the conformational and dynamical properties of chromatin. Specifically, a tailored configurational-bias Monte Carlo method that efficiently samples the possible conformational states of oligonucleosomes yields po...

We choose two identically distributed dependent risks X1 and X2 with dependence structure modelled by an Archimedean copula. Then we are able to analyze diversi...cation e¤ects in the tails of aggregate dependent risks, i.e. for large u we study P [X1+X2 ̧ u] » c ¢P [X1 ̧ u=2], where c describes the diversi...cation e¤ect.

We show that subexponentiality is not suucient to guarantee that the distribution tail of a sample quantile of an innnitely divisible process is equivalent to the \tail" of the same sample quantile under the corresponding L evy measure. However, such an equivalence result is shown to hold under either an assumption of an appropriatly slow tail decay or an assumption on the structure of the proc...

In this paper we address the issue of modeling electricity loads. After analyzing properties of the deseasonalized loads from the California power market we fit an ARMA(1,6) model to the data. The obtained residuals seem to be independent but with tails heavier than Gaussian. It turns out that the hyperbolic distribution provides an excellent fit.
