A system modeling the thermoelastic bards contacts is studied. The problem is first transformed into an equivalent nonlocal parabolic systems using a transformation, and then the existence and uniqueness of the solutions are demonstrated via the theoretical potential representation theory of the parabolic equations. Finally some realistic situations in the applications are discussed using the r...

Measurements of the optical mirror coating properties. Abstract The results of measurement of optical mirror coating are presented. These results indicate that Standard Quantum Limit of sensitivity can be reached in the second stage of LIGO project if it is limited by thermoelastic noise in the coating only.

Accurate quantum-mechanical simulations have significantly extended the current picture of the Earth and hold a great promise for the future of the Earth and planetary sciences. Studies of phase transitions, equations of state, elasticity and thermoelastic properties of the Earth-forming minerals are essential to geophysics. This chapter gives a basic background of the physics of the deep Earth...

In this paper, we prove the local exact null controllability of the thermoelastic plate model, in the absence of rotational inertia, and under the influence of the (non-Lipschitz) von Kármán nonlinearity. The plate component may be taken to satisfy either the clamped or higher order (and physically relevant) free boundary conditions. In the accompanying analysis, critical use is made of sharp o...

We consider the system of micro-beam resonators in the thermoelastic theory of Lord and Shulmann. First, we prove the uniqueness and instability of solutions when the sign of a parameter is not prescribed. Existence of solutions and uniform bounds for the real part of the spectrum are obtained. We finish the paper by proving the impossibility of the time localization of solutions.

In correcting a small mistake in [10], we can prove a new result on non-exponential stability for a coupled system arising in resonators. This also gives another (surprising and) simple example for a thermoelastic system changing from exponential stability to non-exponential stability when changing from Fourier’s law to Cattaneo’s law in the modeling of heat conduction.

The work deals with the modeling of thermoelastic composites with regular and irregular structures. The approaches to the modeling of the effective properties include the construction of the representative volumes with account for microstructure, the effective moduli method for the mechanics of composites, and the finite element technologies for solving the problems for the representative volumes.

the main aim is to study the two dimensional axisymmetric problem of thick circular plate in modified couple stress theory with heat and mass diffusive sources. the thermoelastic theories with mass diffusion developed by sherief et al. [1] and kumar and kansal [2] have been used to investigate the problem. laplace and hankel transforms technique is applied to obtain the solutions of the governi...

the research was conducted in order to determine the bending stress, young’s modulus, shearing stress, and shearing energy of safflower stalk as a function of moisture content and stalk region. the bending forces were measured at different moisture contents and the bending stress and the young’s modulus were calculated from these data. for measuring the shear forces, the stalk specimens were se...

one of the most prominent industries is bending, while using rotary draw bending method is known to be the most conventional approach for thin wall tube bending. pressure die is one effective tool which boosts the tube during the process and eventually improves the bending quality. other effective parameters are mandrel and the amount of clearance between tube and mandrel. in the present study,...
