Windows reduce the sidelobe leakages from the spectrum when applied to finite length time domain sequence. Adjustable windows can be used to control the amplitude of sidelobes with respect to main lobe. This paper presents the effect of window parameter in Dolph-chebyshev, Kaiser, Gaussian and Tukey windows on the Signal to Noise Ratio(SNR) of radar returns and proposes an optimum value of wind...
Aerosol measurements have been carried out at Kolhapur (16.41°N 74.13°E) by using newly designed Semiautomatic Twilight Photometer. Some noticeable features of the semiautomatic twilight photometer are improvement in efficiency of the system, growth in signal to noise ratio, augmentation in height resolution, lot of upgrading in the sensitivity of the system, expansion in duration of operation ...
For a sinusoidal signal, buried in white Gaussian noise, as an input to a parallel array of bistable oscillators, it is reported that conditions exist where the signal-to-noise ratio gain exceeds unity, for both subthreshold and suprathreshold sinusoids. The performance of infinite arrays is closely approached by finite arrays of moderate size, representing a novel method of applying the stocha...
The sensitivity of receptor cells places a fundamental limit upon the sensitivity of sensory systems. For example, the signal-to-noise ratio of sensory receptors has been suggested to limit absolute thresholds in the visual and auditory systems. However, the necessity of optimally processing sensory receptor signals for behaviour to approach this limit has received less attention. We investigat...
We consider parallel arrays of threshold comparators similar to those modelling flash analog-to-digital converters, or digital sonar arrays, or networks of sensory neurons. Such arrays are used here for the transmission of a noisy periodic input signal, with a performance assessed by a signal-to-noise ratio in the frequency domain. We show that independent noises injected on the comparators can...
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a common medical imaging tool that have been used in clinical industry for diagnostic and research purposes. These images are subject to noises while capturing the data that can e ect the image quality and diagnostics. Therefore, improving the quality of the generated images from both resolution and signal to noise ratio (SNR) perspective is critical. Wavelet ...
We demonstrate a new simultaneous normalized detection technique for fluorescence detection of ultracold atoms in a superposition of ground-state hyperfine levels. Using this technique we observe atom shot-noise limited detection signal-to-noise ratios in excess of 7800:1 per shot and 14400:1 in 1 s.
* Perception of English voiceless fricatives by Japanese and English native listeners under various signal-to-noise ratios, by MASUDA, Hinako and ARAI, Takayuki (Sophia University).
An important issue in the analysis of fMRI is how to account for the spatial smoothness of activated regions. In this article a method is proposed to accomplish this by modeling activated regions with Gaussian shapes. Hypothesis tests on the location, spatial extent, and amplitude of these regions are performed instead of hypothesis tests of individual voxels. This increases power and eases int...
Executive Summary. Both dividend yields and past returns have predictive power for P/E ratios; hence they can be used as tools in forming a market timing and asset allocation strategy in stock markets. This study examines the extent to which changes in real estate returns, reflected in changes of property value and dividend yields, can have great effects on P/E ratios. The study is confined to ...
