We consider the problem to schedule n coupled-tasks in presence of treatment tasks. This work is motivated by the problem of data acquisition for a torpedo. In such context, we developp a O(nlog(n)) polynomial-time algorithm for a specific coupledtasks scheduling problem.
A proteolipid protein having a high affinity for methyl (14)C-hexamethonium, (3)H-p-(trimethylammonium)-benzene diazonium fluoroborate, and (acetyl-1-(14)C)choline chloride was isolated and purified from the electric tissue of Torpedo marmorata and Electrophorus electricus. At variance with the "receptor proteolipid" from the brain the one from electric tissue apparently does not bind atropine ...
The well known chloride channel from Torpedo has been a round since 1979 (White and Miller, 1979), but it continues to supply us with new surprises. In this issue of The Journal of General Physiology Chen and Miller analyze in great detail the voltageand chloride-dependent activation mechanism of the peculiar "double-barreled" channel (Chen and Miller, 1996), which turns out to be completely di...
Bupropion, a clinically used antidepressant and smoking-cessation drug, acts as a noncompetitive antagonist of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). To identify its binding site(s) in nAChRs, we developed a photoreactive bupropion analogue, (±)-2-(N-tert-butylamino)-3'-[(125)I]-iodo-4'-azidopropiophenone (SADU-3-72). Based on inhibition of [(125)I]SADU-3-72 binding, SADU-3-72 binds with h...

Pattern formation along the dorsal-ventral axis of the developing Drosophila embryo depends upon two sequentially acting signal transduction cascades functioning in the ovarian egg chamber and in the egg, respectively (Ray and Schüpbach, 1996; Morisato and Anderson, 1995). In the egg chamber, spatially restricted activation of the Drosophila EGF receptor homolog, Torpedo, leads to the establish...
