A simple model for calculation of diffraction radiation characteristics when ultrarelativistic charged particle moves close to a tilted ideally conducting strip has been developed. Resonant diffraction radiation (RDR) is considered as superposition of radiation fields for periodically positioned strips. RDR characteristics have been calculated in dependence on the number of grating elements, ti...

Resonant transition radiation (RTR) can be generated from multi-layer structures when they are driven by relativistic electron beams. In consideration of using the NSRRC 90 MeV photoinjector as driver, we examined the feasibility of generating narrow-band soft x-rays from various multi-layer structures. Based on analytical theory, the expected angular-spectral distribution and photon yield of t...

In this work, we report the synthesis of a combinatorial library of 80 derivatives of EDTA amide x-aminenaphthalene-y-sulfonic acid on four different supports with variable length linker. The sensing fluorescence behavior of these materials for transitions metals was studied by packing the beads into a conventional flow-through cell in a continuous flow injection set up. The fluorescence emissi...

Versatile controllability of interactions and magnetic field in ultracold atomic gases ha now reached an era where spin mixing dynamics and spin-nematic squeezing can be studied. Recent experiments have realized spin-nematic squeezed vacuum and dynamic stabilization following a quench through a quantum phase transition. Here we propose a scheme for storage of maximal spin-nematic squeezing, wit...

Ultracompact minihalos have been proposed as a new class of dark matter structure. They would be produced by phase transitions in the early Universe or features in the inflaton potential, and constitute nonbaryonic massive compact halo objects today. We examine the prospects of detecting these minihalos in gamma rays if dark matter can self-annihilate. We compute present-day fluxes from minihal...

Age consistency for the Universe today has been an important cosmological test. Even more powerful consistency tests at times as early as 10−32 sec lie ahead in the precision era of cosmology. I outline tests based upon cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy, bigbang nucleosynthesis (BBN), particle dark matter, phase transitions, and inflation. The ultimate cosmic timescale – the fate of ...

An innovative approach towards the physico-chemical tailoring of zinc oxide thin films is reported. The films have been deposited by liquid phase using the sol-gel method and then exposed to hard X-rays, provided by a synchrotron storage ring, for lithography. The use of surfactant and chelating agents in the sol allows easy-to-pattern films made by an organic-inorganic matrix to be deposited. ...

Using a large N sigma model approximation we explicitly calculate the power spectrum of gravitational waves arising from a global phase transition in the early Universe and we confirm that it is scale invariant, implying an observation of such a spectrum may not be a unique feature of inflation. Moreover, the predicted amplitude can be over 3 orders of magnitude larger than the naive dimensiona...

Angular distributions of the 14–17 MeV g rays from the Li~p ,g) reaction at Ep5450, 402, and 80 keV were measured at 0°<u lab<135°, using a BGO detector and a 28-mg/cm 2 LiF target. The angular distributions at Ep5450 and 402 keV agree with the previous results by Mainsbridge; at Ep580 keV the ground-state transition is anisotropic on the order of 20%, confirming recent results by Chasteler et al.

Interest in the use of EPMA at low voltage has grown considerably in recent years, mainly because of the availability of electron-beam instruments equipped with field-emission guns. However, EPMA at low voltage is marred by both experimental and analytical problems which may affect the accuracy of quantitative results. In the case of the analysis of transition elements, both the emission and ab...
