Results: Stone size greater than 0.67 centimeters and location in the proximal ureter were found to be statistically significant in predicting complications. When individualizing operative complications with stone characteristics, a stone density of 817 Hounsfield units (HU) or greater, stone size of 0.79 centimeters or greater, and operative time greater than 53 minutes all showed statistical ...

Metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) to the contralateral ureter is a rare phenomenon. We report a metastatic RCC to the contralateral ureter 5 months after right radical nephrectomy for Fuhrman grade 3/4 clear cell adenocarcinoma with pathologic T3 staging. The distal ureter was excised followed by partial ileal ureteral substitution. Pathology confirmed metastatic clear cell RCC Fuhrman grad...

primary small cell carcinoma of the ureter is an extremely rare disease, only several cases have been reported worldwide so far. we report a 70-year-old woman who was examined with intravenous urography and abdominal computed tomography and was diagnosed as small cell carcinoma confirmed by pathology. we describe and discuss the urography and computed tomography findings of this case.

There are occasional reports of using the appendix to replace sections of the ureters, and to our knowledge, only a couple of them were in the left side. We used the appendix as a ureteral substitute in two cases in technically difficult parts, the upper left ureter and the first part of the right ureter. Follow-ups of 8 years and 6 months in right and left side cases, respectively, are impress...

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical value of a novel ureter dilatation method during ureteroscopic pneumatic lithotripsy in patients with ureteral calculi and polyps. Clinical information of 86 patients with ureter calculi and polyps who underwent ureteroscopic pneumatic lithotripsy was reviewed. A cavity-distention machine was used in 44 cases to inject normal saline for keeping clear op...

Urinary tract morphogenesis requires the sub-division of the ureteric bud (UB) into the intra-renal collecting system and ureter, two tissues with unique structural and functional properties. In this report we investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms that mediate their differentiation. Fate mapping experiments in the developing chick indicate that the UB is surrounded by two distinct m...

BACKGROUND Urologic complications are of the most important complications after kidney transplantation which increases mortality and morbidity significantly. OBJECTIVES We designed this study to evaluate the association between ureteral length and postoperative complications. PATIENTS AND METHODS We recorded the length of the transplanted ureter during the operation. Ureter-to-bladder anast...

= A bs t r ac t = Partial ureteral obstruction in rats has been usually created by implanting the mid ureter into the psoas muscle. However, this method does not allow us to choose the obstruction site or the degree of obstruction. On the other hand, the extrinsic stent insertion method needs highly sophisticated operation skill. Hence, we tried t o make a new experimental model using a bisecte...

The effects of caffeine on the electrical and mechanical activity of the guinea-pig ureter smooth muscle were studied. Under untreated conditions caffeine mainly showed inhibitory action on the ureter, inhibiting the evoked action potentials and phasic contractions as well as potassium contracture. Caffeine was also found to suppress the low-Na contracture of Na-loaded ureter muscle. It is esta...

Vesicorenal reflux is a major side effect associated with ureteric stent placement. In a stented upper urinary tract when the bladder pressure rises, such as during bladder spasms (due to irritation caused by the stent) or voiding of the bladder, it drives urine reflux up the ureter, which, in turn, may be a contributory factor for infections in the renal pelvis. We develop a mathematical model...
