PURPOSE Lumbar spinal stenosis typically presents with neurogenic intermittent claudication. The aim of this study was to investigate cauda equina conduction time (CECT) in patients with neurogenic intermittent claudication caused by lumbar spinal stenosis and its relationship with age and body height in normal subjects. METHODS The study included 172 normal subjects (group C) (mean age 44.1 ...

Animal species come in many shapes and sizes, as do the individuals and populations that make up each species. To us, humans might seem to show particularly high levels of morphological variation, but perhaps this perception is simply based on enhanced recognition of individual conspecifics relative to individual heterospecifics. We here more objectively ask how humans compare to other animals ...

A simple method for animation of water waves is presented. The two-dimensional wave equation with damping is used to obtain a finite difference scheme for height distribution. A computational procedure employs explicit time integration. High frame rates are typically obtained for real-time animation of water waves.

Data on the growth of 1063 children and their parents were analysed. Of the variation in height at prepuberty about 20%, and of the final height 30-46%, were explained by the variation in parental heights; the children's own height at the age of 1-0 year increased the proportion explained to half. Two equations were developed for increasing the accuracy of the evaluation of growth. One defines ...

This paper presents an experimental study the influence of wave parameter on the damage of reshaping seawall, model tests have been performed in several water level conditions. The experiments of physical modeling of this research have been done in the flume of the Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Research Institute (SCWMRI). The waves applied to the structure model are irregular and ...

Recent observations of polar plumes in the southern solar coronal hole by the Extreme-Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) on board the SOHO spacecraft show signatures of quasi-periodic compressional waves with periods of 10È15 minutes. The relative wave amplitude was found to increase with height in the plumes up to about 1.2 Using a one-dimensional linear wave equation for the magnetosonic R _...

Abstract Physical height is an important economic variable reflecting health and human capital. Puzzlingly, however, differences in average height across developing countries are not well explained by differences in wealth. In particular, children in India are shorter, on average, than children in Africa who are poorer, on average, a paradox which is often called “the Asian enigma.” The primary...
