Thoracic venous aneurysms are a rare clinical entity and contrast-enhanced computed tomography has been the cornerstone of their diagnosis. We are reporting a rare case of isolated left brachiocephalic vein aneurysm, which was surgically managed, highlighting the role of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging as a definitive diagnostic modality in this patient.
Sinus of Valsalva aneurysms are uncommon. Aortic sinus aneurysm may be complicated by endocarditis or rupture. A 26 year old native Ghanaian presented with dyspnoea, raised jugular venous pressure (JVP), tender hepatomegaly, peripheral oedema, a thrill and a continuous murmur at the upper left sternal edge. Two-dimensional doppler echocardiography with colour flow mapping revealed a large aneur...
Headache can be attributed to cranial or cervical vascular disorders including ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack, non-traumatic intracranial hemorrhage, unruptured vascular malformation, arteritis, carotid-vertebral artery pain, and cerebral venous thrombosis. Here, we present a case report of unruptured saccular aneurysm with migraine. The patient was a previously healthy 32-year-ol...
W e report the unusual case of a 60-year-old-man presenting with left lower limb venous gangrene caused by an aorto-caval fistula. There was associated bilateral lower limb and scrotal oedema. In this case a ruptured aortic aneurysm with acute fistulation into the vena cava (fig 1) was repaired in the conventional manner. However, the patient underwent above-knee amputation of irreversible veno...
Inferior vena cava (IVC) aneurysms are extremely rare. Patients can be asymptomatic, have thrombosis, rupture, or pulmonary embolism. Thrombosis of the IVC aneurysm may mimic a retroperitoneal tumor. Surgical treatment of abdominal venous aneurysms with thrombosis is warranted and is necessary for the management of intraoperative bleeding and thrombosis.
Massive pulmonary embolism associated with total cardiovascular collapse occurred during the surgical repair of a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm with an aortocaval fistula. Pulmonary artery pressure monitoring permitted immediate diagnosis whereas central venous pressures did not reflect the obstruction to right ventricular outflow. Pulmonary embolectomy without cardiopulmonary bypass was p...
Key words: renal artery aneurysm; traction injury; charged on the 10th postoperative day with a serum creatinine of 126 mmol/l on triple drug immuno-venous patch suppression, namely, cyclosporin, azathioprine and prednisolone. Four years later, the patient presented with deterior
An unusual case of abdominal aortic aneurysm with simultaneous rupture in the retroperitoneum and in the inferior vena cava is reported. The patient presented with clinical signs of hemorrhagic shock, peripheral venous congestion and acute renal failure. An urgent contrast-enhanced computed tomography was performed , leading to an accurate diagnosis , and straight to surgery.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The natural history study of experimental aneurysms is important for the evaluation of new endovascular occlusion devices. Our purpose was to evaluate the natural history of experimental venous pouch bifurcation aneurysms in mongrel dogs up to a 10-month period. MATERIALS AND METHODS Serial digital subtraction angiography was performed in 5 bifurcation aneurysms 1, 4, 7...
BACKGROUND Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a proinflammatory cytokine, was found to surge in the cerebral spinal fluid after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). We hypothesized that the plasma level of IL-6 could be an independent biomarker in predicting clinical outcome of patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysm. METHODS We prospectively included 53 consecutive patients treated with platinu...
