An epidemic caused by influenza A (H7N9) virus was recently reported in China. Deep sequencing revealed the full genome of the virus obtained directly from a patient's sputum without virus culture. The full genome showed substantial sequence heterogeneity and large differences compared with that from embryonated chicken eggs.

background : ticks are important vectors and reservoirs of crimean congo hemorrhagic fever (cchf) virus. human beings may be infected whenever the normal life cycle of the infected ticks on non- human vertebrate hosts is interrupted by the undesirable presence of humans in the cycle. a total of 26 species of argasid and ixodid ticks have been recorded in iran; including nine hyalomma, two rhipi...

The src gene present in all avian sarcoma viruses is not present in the genome of Fujinami sarcoma virus, a potent sarcoma-inducing virus in chickens. Fujinami virus is defective and requires helper virus for replication. RNA from a mixture of helper and transforming viruses consists of two components, 35S and 28S. Oligonucleotide fingerprinting of each RNA component revealed that the 35S compo...

The International Committee for Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) recognizes four species of tick-borne orbiviruses (TBOs): Chenuda virus, Chobar Gorge virus, Wad Medani virus and Great Island virus (genus Orbivirus, family Reoviridae). Nucleotide (nt) and amino acid (aa) sequence comparisons provide a basis for orbivirus detection and classification, however full genome sequence data were only availa...

West Nile virus belongs to the Flaviviridae family, transmitted by vector mosquitoes. Here, we reported the complete genome sequence of West Nile virus isolated from human samples during an acute encephalitis outbreak in Kerala, India. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the virus genome clusters into genetic lineage 1, clade 1a.

Here, we report the genome sequence of a novel strain of a Phasi Charoen-like virus, isolated from Aedes aegypti mosquitoes caught in Zhanjiang province of China. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that this virus belongs to a new genus, Goukovirus, in the family Bunyaviridae This is the first reported genome sequence of a Phasi Charoen-like virus identified in China.

UNLABELLED In order to initiate an infection, viruses need to deliver their genomes into cells. This involves uncoating the genome and transporting it to the cytoplasm. The process of genome delivery is not well understood for nonenveloped viruses. We address this gap in our current knowledge by studying the uncoating of the nonenveloped human cardiovirus Saffold virus 3 (SAFV-3) of the family ...

Positive-strand RNA viruses direct different virus-specific processes during their infection of host cells. Fundamental events such as viral RNA genome replication are controlled by viral regulatory RNA elements (REs). Here, we have investigated the possibility of specifically modulating the action of a viral RE using RNA aptamer technology. Through rational design, a tombusvirus RE, which has ...

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a pathogen that infects cattle, and is globally important. It causes substantial financial losses to the livestock industry. In the current study, a one-step reverse transcriptase-loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) assay was set up for rapid and efficient detection of BVDV. For this purpose, four primers were designed to recognize six distinct...

Torque teno virus is a nonenveloped single-stranded DNA virus infecting humans and nonprimate species. We report the complete genome sequence of a pigeon torque teno virus isolated from pigeons in Jiangsu Province, China, in 2012. This genome sequence will be useful for viral diagnostics and disease control.
