in future high-speed self-routing photonic networks based on all-optical time division multiplexing (otdm) it is highly desirable to carry out packet switching, clock recovery and demultplexing in the optical domain in order to avoid the bottleneck due to the optoelectronics conversion. in this paper we propose a self-routing otdm node structure composed of an all-optical router and demultiplex...
This paper investigates several routing methods for WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) networks under dynamic traffic load. We evaluate the impact of wavelength conversion (including partial conversion) on the network blocking probability. Moreover, the influence on network performance of priority scheduling for various routing parameters is investigated.
The basic wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) routing and provisioning problem is considered in this paper. The literature is replete with prescriptive integer programming models for various versions of WDM design problems, but in no case they consider the real situation of solving them taking into account the former nature of the problem, that is, its inherent vagueness. In this paper this ...
Dec 2000 News: * Claiming a world-best speed record for optical data transmission, researchers at Siemens have transmitted 7 Tbits/s over a single optical fiber using DWDM. That's the equivalent of over 100 million telephone calls or a billion pages of typed data per second. The demonstration was conducted by Siemens' Information and Communication Networks Group at the company's Advanced Optica...
We have demonstrated a bidirectional wavelength division (de)multiplexer (WDM) on the silicon-on-insulator platform using two 4-channel angled multimode interferometers (AMMIs) sharing the same multimode interference waveguide. An excellent match of the peak transmission wavelength of each channel between the two AMMIs was achieved. The input and output access waveguides were arranged in a conf...
The traffic flow in long-haul dense wavelength division multiplexing fiber networks has surpassed by far the traffic deliverability from/to the access network thus creating what is known as “access bottleneck”. This bottleneck was the result of two major factors, the inherent cost sensitivity of access networks that impedes deployment of new optical technology prior to cost maturity, and the la...
Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission of chaotic optical communication (COC) and conventional fiber-optic communication (CFOC) is numerically confirmed and analyzed. For an 80-km-long two-channel communication system, a 1-Gb/s secure message in COC channel and 10-Gb/s digital signal in CFOC channel are simultaneously achieved with 100 GHz channel spacing. Our numerical simulations...
We study a soliton transmission line with sliding-frequency filters, and we determine the limits on soliton stability imposed by the value of the free spectral range of Fabry-Perot étalon filters. From these limits, we infer the minimum channel spacing that is possible in a soliton wavelength-division-multiplexing system.
Optical Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) technology is a very promising candidate to harness the enormous bandwidth offered by the optical fiber. WDM networks are being actively considered for deployment in future Wide Area Network (WAN) environments such as the Next Generation Internet, in order to satisfy the high bandwidth and low latency demands. A proper performance evaluation of the ...
