We combine the Planck-SZ2 galaxy cluster catalogue with near-infrared photometry of galaxies from VISTA Hemisphere Survey to identify candidate brightest (BCGs) in 306 massive clusters Southern skies at redshifts $z>0.1$. find that 91% these have least one BCG within 95% confidence interval on centers quoted by Planck collaboration, providing reassurance our analyses are statistically compatibl...

Extremely shallow lamellar metallic gratings are shown to totally absorb incident light inside a wide angular interval. The full absorption still holds at the homogeneization limit when the period tends toward zero. It is shown that a lamellar grating, illuminated in normal incidence and in transerve magnetic polarization with a period lower than 1/, of the vacuum wavelength behaves like a diel...

We present mixed integer linear programming models that are robust in the face of uncertain traffic demands known to lie in a certain polyhedron for the problem of dense wavelength division multiplexing network routing and provisioning at minimal cost. We investigate the solution of the problem in a set of numerical experiments for two models of polyhedral uncertainty: (a) the hose model, (b) a...

In this thesis studies on accurate surface color measurements are considered. Errors in a spectrophotometric measurements are discussed and correction methods introduced. The wavelength interval in a tristimulus integration is considered next. The ASTM weighting functions are tested with a large data set of non fluorescent colors and shown to be useless. The thermochromic effect is also discuss...

Describing harmonic generation (HG) in terms of a system's complex quasienergy, the harmonic power P_{DeltaE}(lambda) (over a fixed interval, DeltaE, of harmonic energies) is shown to reproduce the wavelength scaling predicted recently by two groups of authors based on solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation: P_{DeltaE}(lambda) approximately lambda;{-x}, where x approximately 5-6. ...

We present near-infrared (observed frame) spectra of the high-redshift quasar S4 0636+68 at z = 3.2 which was previously thought to be one of a group of “strong” Fe II emitters (i.e., F (Fe IIλλ4434–4684)/F (Hβ) > 1). Our K-band spectrum clearly shows emission lines of Hβ and [O III]λλ4959, 5007 as well as optical Fe II emission. Our computed value of F (Fe II λλ4434–4684)/F (Hβ) ≃ 0.8 for S4 0...

When the method of contouring an object surface by electronic speckle pattern interferometry is based on shifting the illumination beams, the shifted phase of the interference speckle pattern has a new relationship with the depth of the test surface. Therefore the contour interval as well as the fringe sensitivity of this method has new forms. The geometry of such a situation, which differs fro...

The frequency-noise power spectral density of a room-temperature distributed-feedback quantum cascade laser emitting at λ = 4.36 μm has been measured. An intrinsic linewidth value of 260 Hz is retrieved, in reasonable agreement with theoretical calculations. A noise reduction of about a factor 200 in most of the frequency interval is also found, with respect to a cryogenic laser at the same wav...

Theoretical spectral energy distributions are computed for a grid of hydrogen-deficient and carbon-rich model atmospheres with a range in Teff of 4000− 5500 K and log g of 1.0− 0.0, using the technique of opacity sampling, and taking into account continuous, atomic line and molecular band absorption. The energy distributions are compared with the spectrum of V4334 Sgr (Sakurai’s object) of Augu...

We investigate the capabilities and limitations of the Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) techniques, in particular of the Small BAseline Subset (SBAS) approach, to measure surface deformation in active seismogenetic areas. The DInSAR analysis of low-amplitude, long-wavelength deformation, such as that due to interseismic strain accumulation, is limited by intrinsic ...
