Within this thesis, the satellite broadcast scenario of geostationary satellites is reviewed. The densely crowded geostationary arc in the common broadcast frequencies may create significant interference from adjacent satellites (ASI). The possible use of multiple-input receivers and of interference processing techniques is analyzed in this specific context. In addition the synchronization prob...

OLFAR, Orbiting Low Frequency Antennas for Radio Astronomy, will be a space mission to observe the universe frequencies below 30 MHz, as it was never done before with an orbiting telescope. Because of the ionospheric scintillations below 30 MHz and the opaqueness of the ionosphere below 15 MHz, a space mission is the only opportunity for this as yet unexplored frequency range in radio astronomy...

We report on X-ray observations of the young, energetic radio pulsar PSR J1105−6107 obtained using the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. Our timing analysis of Proportional Counter Array data finds no evidence for X-ray pulsations from this source. We set a new upper limit on the pulsed X-ray flux from the pulsar of 18% in the 2-10 keV band, for a duty cycle of 0.5. Our improved upper limit supports...

In this paper, a microstrip-fed hexagonal shape ultra-wideband (UWB) monopole antenna with triple notched bands is presented. The antenna consists of a microstrip feed line, a regular hexagonal shape radiation patch with a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) and a pair of inverted T-shaped conductor-backed planes embedded in the antenna backside. Notched bands can be easily controlled by ...

The present thesis deals with the design of a planar antenna array for the communication between a civil aircraft (Dassault Aviation’s Falcon) and an Inmarsat satellite. The final goal is to provide high speed Internet access in X/Ku-Band (8-12GHz / 12-18GHz), and possibly even in K/Ka-Band (18-27GHz / 17-40GHz). The study starts with the Ku-Band only, then evolves towards the transmission band...
