Acyclic diamines are valuable feedstocks for polyamide synthesis. Ruthenium-alkylidene catalysed cross metathesis of amino alkenes is problematic and acyl derivatisation can result in less efficient syntheses, poor catalyst turnover and isomerisation. Temporary amine masking via stable and soluble ammonium salts delivers cyclic and acyclic aminoalkenes in high yield and purity.

A new ruthenium complex catalyzes the amination of primary and secondary alcohols and the regioselective mono- and sequential diamination of diols via the borrowing hydrogen pathway. Several variations on new intra- and intermolecular cyclizations of aminoalcohols, diols and diamines lead to heterocyclic ring systems.

A series of diamines and amino alcohols derived from 1-dodecanol, 1-tetradecanol, 1,2-dodecanediol and 1,2-tetradecanediol were synthesized and tested for their antitubercular activity. Compounds 3, 8 and 9 were found to be the most active (MIC of 6.25 microg/mL). Nine other compounds displayed activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, with a MIC of 12.5 microg/mL.

To realize the scope of solid-solid reaction, functional solid diamines reacted with 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde under high-speed ball milling in a solvent-free environment. The findings showed that wide range Salophen ligands could be produced good to excellent yields.
