The aim of this work was to compare protective and anti-apoptotic effects of α-tocopherol at nanomolar and micromolar concentrations against 0.2 mM H(2)O(2)-induced toxicity in the PC12 neuronal cell line and to reveal protein kinases that contribute to α-tocopherol protective action. The protection by 100 nM α-tocopherol against H(2)O(2)-induced PC12 cell death was pronounced if the time of pr...

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is the most common liver disorder in developed countries, and its incidence is increasing in all population groups. As an antioxidant, vitamin E is effective in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, although the mechanism is still unclear. Methionine-choline deficient Wistar rats (n = 5) used as an experimental model of non-alcoholic fatty liver d...

To study the mechanisms of discrimination between various forms of vitamin E, four normal subjects, one patient with lipoprotein lipase deficiency, and three patients with abnormal apolipoprotein B-100 production were given an oral dose containing three tocopherols labeled with differing amounts of deuterium (2R,4'R,8'R-alpha-(5,7-(C2H3)2)tocopheryl acetate (d6-RRR-alpha-tocopheryl acetate), 2S...

alpha-Tocopherol transfer protein (alpha-TTP) maintains the concentration of serum alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), one of the most potent fat-soluble antioxidants, by facilitating alpha-tocopherol export from the liver. Mutations of the alpha-TTP gene are linked to ataxia with isolated vitamin E deficiency (AVED). We produced a model mouse of AVED by deleting the alpha-TTP gene, which showed atax...

abstract: the object of this study is to extract the oil from millets and evaluate the chemical properties of the extracted oil. commercial millet oil was obtained by cold solvent extraction adopting soxhlet procedure. quantitative and qualitative tests concerned with the non-saponifiable matter, fatty acid composition, phosphorus content representing total phospholipids, refractive index, pero...

We present a combined in vitro/in silico study to determine the molecular origin of the selectivity of [Formula: see text]-tocopherol transfer protein ([Formula: see text]-TTP) towards [Formula: see text]-tocopherol. Molecular dynamics simulations combined to free energy perturbation calculations predict a binding free energy for [Formula: see text]-tocopherol to [Formula: see text]-TTP 8.26[Fo...

The present study assessed the influence of type tropical pastures on lamb body weight (BW) gain and meat quality. Fifty-four lambs were allocated to three grazing pastures: (1) AG — Aruana grass (Panicum maximum cv. IZ-5); (2) PP pigeon pea legume (Cajanus cajan Anão); (3) CS contiguous swards, half paddock with PP. After 92 days grazing, slaughtered. Carcasses evaluated longissimus muscle was...

Diabetes mellitus is a risk factor for cerebrovascular ischemic disease. Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) is the most widely used drug for the secondary prevention of thrombotic phenomena. It has been also recently demonstrated that alpha-tocopherol influenced in vitro the antiplatelet effect of aspirin. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effects aspirin plus alpha-tocopherol on cere...

Tocopherol-associated protein (TAP) was expressed in mouse mast cells. TAP was predominantly localized in the cytoplasm, and the subcellular localization was not changed by alpha-tocopherol. The results suggest that the physiological role of TAP in mast cells is not regulation of tocopherol function but an as-yet-unidentified activity.

Diseases that occur during the transition period are exacerbated when cows unable to cope with an increased pro-oxidant load results in oxidative stress. Dairy cattle routinely supplemented vitamin E analog ?-tocopherol mitigate severity of Nonetheless, stress remains a disease predisposing condition for many dairy cattle. A better method optimizing antioxidant functions is needed. ?-Tocopherol...
