In a detection&#10 network, the final decision is made by fusing the decisions from local detectors. The objective of that decision is to minimize the final error probability. To implement and optimal fusion rule, the performance of each detector, i.e. its probability of false alarm and its probability of missed detection as well as the a priori probabilities of the hypotheses, must be known. H...

Carefully chosen demonstrations and hands-on exercises of digital signal processing (DSP) concepts can result in improved comprehension and better retention of topics for the majority of our students. This is especially true when the instructor has limited time to present a specific topic. In this paper, we describe the in-class use of a demonstration using real-time DSP to implement a basic ad...

In this paper we introduce a simple, computationally inxepentsive, adaptive recursive structure for enhancing bandpass signals highly corrupted by broad-band noise. This adaptive algorithm, enhancing input signals, enables us to estimate the center frequency and the bandwidth of the input signal. In addition, an important feature of the proposed structure is that the conventional bias existing ...

A signal adaptive spread spectrum based inaudible speech watermarking technique has been proposed in this paper. The strength of the watermark to be embedded is adapted to the local signal energy such that the watermark is just audible and detection is efficient. Spread Spectrum technique is used to make the watermarking technique more robust against attacks such as watermark removal and impair...

The oblique projection supports the framework to resolve a signal space into desired signal and interference subspaces. This paper presents subspace-based detection methods using the oblique projection for the CDMA channel. For the synchronous case, it is shown that this detector represents the geometrical form of the decorrelating detector, and performs a complete rejection of interfering sign...

Automatic incident detection and characterization is urgently require in the development of advanced technologies used for reducing non-recurrent traffic congestion on urban traffic. This paper presents a new method using data mining to identify automatically freeway incidents. As a component of a real-time traffic adaptive control system for signal control, the algorithm feeds an incident repo...

In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for the detection of howling signal employing LMS adaptive notch filter and digital phase locked loop. The main advantages of the proposed algorithm are that it has very low computational complexity and has a short detection delay. Computer simulations are given to demonstrate the performance of this method.

This paper deals with spectrum sensing in Cognitive Radios to enable unlicensed secondary users to opportunistically access a licensed band. The ability to detect the presence of a primary user at a low signal to noise ratio (SNR) is a challenging prerequisite to spectrum sensing and earlier proposed techniques like energy detection and cyclostationary detection have only been partially success...

A significant part of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is concerned with restoring signals corrupted by unwanted interference or noise. The usual way to recover such a signal is by adaptive filtering. Designing adaptive filters is not an easy task. It usually involves complicated algorithms whose performance depends on the skill of the designer as well as the power of the computer used. The aim ...
