We propose a general framework to scrutinize the performance of semi-analytic codes of galaxy formation. The approach is based on the analysis of the outputs from the model after a series of perturbations in the input parameters controlling the baryonic physics. The perturbations are chosen in a way that they do not change the results in the luminosity function or mass function of the galaxy po...
This paper presents two strategies for multi-way testing (i.e. t-way testing with t>2). The first strategy generalizes an existing strategy, called in-parameter-order, from pairwise testing to multi-way testing. This strategy requires all multi-way combinations to be explicitly enumerated. When the number of multi-way combinations is large, however, explicit enumeration can be prohibitive in te...
The paper studies the class of analytic input/state/output systems for which the vector fields and the observation functions are only partially defined. The state space of the system is a universe space a newly defined concept. As an example, quotient systems and observability are studied in detail. Observability is defined in a new way, consistent with the “universal” approach.
We study a novel class of nonsingular time-symmetric cosmological bounces. In this class of four dimensional models the bounce is induced by a perfect fluid with a negative energy density. Metric perturbations are solved in an analytic way all through the bounce. The conditions for generating a scale invariant spectrum of tensor and scalar metric perturbations are discussed.
We prove that any (real or complex) analytic horizontally conformal submersion from a three-dimensional conformal manifold (M, cM ) to a twodimensional conformal manifold (N, cN ) can be, locally, ‘extended’ to a unique harmonic morphism from the H(eaven)-space (H, g) of (M, cN ) to (N, cN ). Moreover, any positive harmonic morphism with two-dimensional fibres from (H, g) is obtained this way.
Our approach towards teaching visual design is based on our viewpoint of visualization as a way to elicit understanding and experience. Our teaching practice shows a permanent stress on an analytic attitude and an explicit application of design space to fit the design to the users’ culture and context and still stimulate creative solutions.
In this work the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method has been used to evaluate the best action to be performed by a public transit company with reference to a general goal aimed at customer satisfaction. The tested procedure can help the planner to select the most effective action with reference to the general goal by using in optimal way the available resources.
We explore static spherically symmetric black hole solutions allowing a bulk U(1) vector field in the khronometric formulation of Hořava gravity by way of EinsteinÆther. We examine analytic solutions and study numerical results in the limit that the khronon does not backreact on the metric.
We define, in a consistent way, non-local pseudo-differential operators acting on a space of analytic functionals. These operators include the fractional derivative case. In this context we show how to solve homogeneous and inhomogeneous equations associated with these operators. We also extend the formalism to d-dimensional space-time solving, in particular, the fractional Wave and Klein-Gordo...
Placing shields around a victim signal line is a common way to enhance signal integrity while minimizing delay uncertainty. An analytic model of the peak noise is developed for shielded interconnects based on a model. A design methodology for inserting shields between coupled interconnects to reduce crosstalk noise is presented.
