One of the most important physical parameters to describe the quality of a piece of semiconductor material is the electron scattering length le. Also referred to as the mean-free path, it stands for the average distance between the randomly distributed scatterers in the material, such as lattice defects, impurities, and phonons. The electron mean-free path is typically a few nanometers (1 nm = ...

China held the first of what could be a series of tests to check on the speed of its new experimental hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) which would approach its target at a velocity of up to 10 times the speed of sound. Basically dubbed as WU-14 by Pentagon, this development interpreted to be designed for mounting on intercontinental ballistic missiles, as when the hypersonic vehicle is detached f...

We establish a thermodynamic limit and Gaussian fluctuations for the height and surface width of the random interface formed by the deposition of particles on surfaces. The results hold for the standard ballistic deposition model as well as the surface relaxation model in the off-lattice setting. The results are proved with the aid of general limit theorems for stabilizing functionals of marked...

Consider a classical system of N identical particles. We are interested in a situation where the number of particles N is very large and the interaction strength quite moderate. In addition we look for a reduced or macroscopic description of the system. According to the general prescription of the kinetic theory, we introduce r > 0, a small parameter expressing the ratio between the macro and t...

A ballistic projectile launching device was used to study the penetration behaviors of tungsten alloy spherical fragments various diameters into carbon fiber composite target plates different thicknesses. Based on test results, we obtained relationship between ultimate velocity, plate thickness, and fragment diameter as well energy incident velocity. Using dimensional analysis, a formula relati...

We consider a one-brane probe in the presence of a five-dimensional black hole in the classical limit. The velocity-dependent force on a slowly-moving probe is characterized by a metric on the probe moduli space. This metric is computed for large black holes using low-energy supergravity, and for small black holes using D-brane gauge theory. The results are compared.

This paper investigates ballistic motions in walking quadrupeds on a horizontal plane. The study is carried out on a quadruped consisting of a body and four identical two-link legs. Each leg has a knee joint and is connected to the body by a haunch joint. Three types of quadruped gaits, bound, amble, and trot, are studied. None of these gaits complies with a flight phase, but they all involve s...
