The transition from vegetative growth to reproductive development is a complex process that requires an integrated response to multiple environmental cues and endogenous signals. In Arabidopsis thaliana, which has a facultative requirement for vernalization and long days, the genes of the autonomous pathway function as floral promoters by repressing the central repressor and vernalization-regul...

Silicosis and coal worker's pneumoconiosis are serious occupational respiratory diseases associated with the coal mining industry and the inhalation of respirable dusts containing crystalline silica. The purpose of this study (funded by the Mine Health and Safety Council of South Africa) was to evaluate the individual contributions of underground coal mining tasks to the respirable dust and res...

Chromosome segment substitution lines (CSSLs) represent a powerful method for precise quantitative trait loci (QTL) detection of complex agronomical traits in plants. In this study, we used a marker-assisted backcrossing strategy to develop a population consisting of 63 CSSLs, derived from backcrossing of the F1 generated from a cross between two Brassica rapa subspecies: "Chiifu" (ssp. pekinen...

Field pennycress (Thiaspi arvense L.) is a species with a cold requirement for the initiation of reproductive development (thermoinduction). Work in this laboratory has been focused on elucidating the biochemical and molecular mechanisms underlying the bolting or rapid stem elongation response that is an intricate part of reproductive development in this species. In the present paper the cellul...

Abstract Gibberellin (GA) plays a major role in controlling Brassica rapa stalk development. As an essential negative regulator of GA signal transduction, DELLA proteins may exert significant effects on However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying this regulation remain unclear. In study, we report highly efficient and inheritable mutagenesis using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system BraPDS (phyto...

Pennycress ( Thlaspi arvense L.) is a new winter annual oilseed crop that can be integrated as “cash cover crop” in Midwestern USA cropping systems. Relay-cropping pennycress with soybean [ Glycine max (L.) Merr.] has been shown an effective way to produce three crops over 2 years while providing living on the agricultural landscape nearly year-round. However, management improvements are needed...
