Clinical isolates of the respiratory pathogen Bordetella pertussis in the United States have become predominantly deficient for the acellular vaccine immunogen pertactin through various independent mutations. Here, we report the complete genome sequences for four B. pertussis isolates that harbor novel deletions responsible for pertactin deficiency.

Bordetella bronchiseptica infects a variety of mammalian and avian hosts. Here, we report the genome sequences of 53 genetically distinct isolates acquired from a broad range of terrestrial and aquatic animals. These data will greatly facilitate ongoing efforts to better understand the evolution, host adaptation, and virulence mechanisms of B. bronchiseptica.

Bacteria resembling two Bordetella species were isolated from both normal and pneumonic ovine lungs using a selective charcoal agar. Twenty-eight of the 33 isolates showed similarities to stock NCTC B. parapertussis strains in their SDS-PAGE gel protein profiles, in their biochemical reactions and in causing browning on tyrosine agar. Five isolates behaved similarly to stock B. bronchiseptica s...

The three species of the genus Bordetella-B. pertussis, B. parapertussis, and B. bronchiseptica-have many antigens in common. Studies on representative strains of these species have shown that there are only a few specific antigens in each species. Whole-cell vaccines and extracts from B. pertussis contained specific mouse-protective antigen and a histamine-sensitizing factor. In addition, whol...

Prevalence of pertactin-lacking Bordetella pertussis isolates has been observed worldwide. In Japan, however, we found that the frequency of pertactin-deficient isolates in 2014-2016 (8%) was significantly lower than the frequency in 2005-2007 (41%), 2008-2010 (35%), and 2011-2013 (25%). This reduction was closely associated with changes in genotypes.

Despite the availability of highly effective vaccines, Bordetella pertussis incidence has been rapidly rising in highly vaccinated populations. Recent outbreaks have received media attention, feeding concerns about the emergence of dangerous new strains with increased virulence or that escape vaccine-induced immunity. To accelerate the study of this reemerging pathogen, we sequenced the genomes...

The analysis of the 6.8-Mbp draft genome sequence of the phenylmalonate-assimilating bacterium Bordetella bronchiseptica KU1201 identified 6,358 protein-coding sequences. This will give us an insight into the catabolic variability of this strain for aromatic compounds, along with the roles of arylmalonate decarboxylases in nature.

It has been demonstrated that under iron-restricted conditions Bordetella pertussis can take up iron from human transferrin within 30 min of exposure. B. pertussis utilizes two mechanisms for acquiring iron from human transferrin, a direct contact method and a siderophore mediated system. Both systems are shown to result in bacterial internalization of iron from transferrin. However, direct con...

based on the latest records of typhlops vermicularis merrem, 1820 from iran, this species is distributed in the northern and southern regions of the country. in this study, new records of typhlops vermicularis are presented and it is shown that distribution range of this species is extended towards the eastern and western iran, and according to the new distribution map, it can be assumed that t...

We determined the degradation rates of herbicides 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T by two different bacterial communities. One these originated from soil heavily contaminated with Bien Hoa airbase, other same but amended additional carbon Gibbs energy sources. The community contaminated, untreated, degraded both within 5 days cultivation. one soil, however, hardly showed any compounds throughout 23 After refr...
