We analyze the prospects of the Tevatron for finding a Higgs boson in the two photon decay mode. We conclude that the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson will likely not be discovered in this mode. However, we motivate several theories beyond the SM, including the MSSM, that predict a Higgs boson with enhanced branching fractions into photons, and calculate the luminosity needed to discover a gener...

The differences between the on-shell mass and width of the Higgs boson and their pole counterparts are evaluated in leading order. For a heavy Higgs boson, they are found to be sensitive functions of the gauge parameter and become numerically large over a class of gauges that includes the unitary gauge. For a light Higgs boson, the differences remain small in all gauges. The pinch-technique mas...

Starting from a general, microscopic fermion-to-boson mapping that preserves Hermitian conjugation, we discuss truncations of the boson Fock space basis. We give conditions under which the exact boson images of finite fermion operators are also finite (e.g., a 1+2-body fermion Hamiltonian is mapped to a 1+2-body boson Hamiltonian) in the truncated basis. For the most general case, where the ima...

Final results from the combined data of the four LEP experiments ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL on Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson searches are presented. New preliminary results of searches in extended models are reviewed. Bottom quark–induced processes are responsible for a large fraction of the LHC discovery potential, in particular for supersymmetric Higgs bosons. Recently, the discrepancy between exclusive and inclusive Higgs boson production rates has been linked to the choice of an appropriate bottom factorization scale. We investigate the process kinematics at hadron colliders and show that it leads to a c...

The cross sections describing the transverse momentum distributions of Higgs bosons are discussed within the framework of unintegrated parton distributions obtained from the CCFM equations in the single loop approximation. It is shown how the approximate treatment of the CCFM equations generates the standard expressions describing the soft gluon resummation effects in the corresponding cross se...

In this report the SU(3)C⊗SU(3)L⊗U(1)X gauge model with minimal scalar sector, two Higgs triplets, is presented in detail. One of the vacuum expectation values u is a source of lepton-number violations and a reason for mixing among charged gauge bosons—the standard model W± and the bilepton gauge bosons Y ± as well as among the neutral non-Hermitian bilepton X0 and neutral gauge bosons—the Z an...

Next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to Higgs boson hadroproduction have recently been calculated in the heavy top-quark limit m t → ∞. The m t → ∞ limit introduces double-logarithmic corrections in ln x, with x ≡ m 2 H /s. We identify these corrections order by order in α s. As an application, we derive an analytic expression for the dominant x ≪ 1 part of the NNLO coefficient.

In an extension of the Standard Model with one compact extra dimension and N=1 supersymmetry, we compute the Higgs boson decay width into two gluons, relevant to the Higgs production in hadronic collisions. We find that at one-loop the decay width is significantly suppressed with respect to the SM. In particular, for a compactification radius R = (370 ± 70GeV ) and a Higgs mass mH = 127 ± 8GeV ...

The first run of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN brought the discovery of the Higgs boson, an apparently elementary scalar particle with a mass of 125 GeV, the avatar of the mechanism that hides the electroweak symmetry. A new round of experimentation is beginning, with the energy of the proton–proton colliding beams raised to 6.5 TeV per beam, from 4 TeV at the end of the first run. This art...
