BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Neuroinflammation plays an important role in ischemic brain injury. Regulatory T cells (Treg) are important endogenous immune modulators. We tested the hypothesis that Treg amplification with a CD28 superagonistic monoclonal antibody (CD28SA) reduces brain damage in murine cerebral ischemia. METHODS Cerebral ischemia was induced by coagulation of the distal middle cereb...
Background: Hyperthyroidism as a risk factor for stroke is not conclusive. There are no definite data on the relationship between ischemic cerebrovascular injury and hyperthyroidism. This study was designed to define whether the outcomes of post-ischemic stroke injury are influenced by chronic hyperthyroidism. Methods: Two groups of hyperthyroid (HT) and control euthyroid rats of equal numbers ...
Introduction: Anesthetic agents, blood pressure, arterial pH and blood gases have found to influence on the pathophysiology of experimental stroke. Despite, there are very few comparative studies about effects of anesthetic agents in animal model of cerebral ischemia. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effects of chloral hydrate and pentobarbital anesthesia, as comparative study, on...
BACKGROUND Knowledge of the pathway common to both wave fronts in figure-8 reentrant circuits (ie, the isthmus) is of importance for catheter ablation to stop reentrant ventricular tachycardia. It was hypothesized that quantitative measures of reentry isthmus geometry were interrelated and could be correlated with tachycardia cycle length. METHODS AND RESULTS A canine infarct model of reentra...
Tinofedrine, a new derivative of l-norephedrine, was examined for cerebral vasodilator activity in man. Ten patients with reduced cerebral blood flow (CBF) and multi-infarct dementia were given the drug intravenously. Cerebral blood flow increased significantly by 28% from a mean of 43.3 to 55.5 ml/100 g/min.
We report a case of bilateral thalamic infarct associated with bilateral eyelid apraxia. This extremely rare condition provides us with an opportunity to map clinical and neuroimaging findings to help better understand brain function.
Combining acupuncture with acupoint-injection of aceglutamidi has been used in treating 38 cases of senile dementia. Our experiment showed that the therapy is effective for the cases of multi-infarct dementia, the rate of success being 42.85% and of improvement 42.86%, the total efficacy rate being 85.71%. The rating was based on the revised Hasegawa Dementia Scale and the Functional Activity Q...
Thalamic infarcts presenting predominantly with psychiatric manifestations are rather uncommon. They usually have a constellation of neurological and psychiatric symptoms involving altered consciousness, vertical gaze palsy, motor and sensory symptoms with cognitive deficits involving memory. A middle-aged male with Bilateral Thalamic infarct who presented with prominent delusions and cognitive...
Right hemisphere dominance in face processing is well established and unilateral right inferior temporo-occipital damage can result in prosopagnosia. Here, we describe a 21-year-old right-handed woman with acute impairment in face recognition that selectively concerned unfamiliar faces, following a focal left lateral temporo-occipital venous infarct. She was severely impaired in discerning that...
BACKGROUND Knowledge of cycle-to-cycle changes in isthmus geometry is of potential importance for radiofrequency catheter ablation to stop reentrant ventricular tachycardia. It was hypothesized that isthmus geometry often undergoes continuous evolution throughout reentry and that cycle-length variability measurements could be used to segment reentry into distinct phases and to predict changes i...
