Imaging of cerbral perfusion is understood to provide rich information on cerebral processes. This study explores whether EIT is able to image perfusion in the brain. In a single rat, a bolus of hypertonic saline was introduced into an arterial catheter during two activity states, and EIT images reconstructed. Results suggest that changes in perfusion pattern are visible in EIT images.

BACKGROUND The pathogenesis of delayed cerebral injury after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is largely unresolved. In particular, the progression and interplay of tissue and perfusion changes, which can significantly affect the outcome, remain unclear. Only a few studies have assessed pathophysiological developments between subacute and chronic time points after SAH, which may be idea...

In this study, alterations in brain perfusion have been investigated in patients with Tourette syndrome (TS) compared with control subjects. In addition, we investigated the effects of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in both globus pallidus internus (GPi) and centromedian-parafascicular/ventralis oralis internus nuclei of the thalamus (CM/Voi) and sham (SHAM) stimulation on cerebral blood flow. In...

OBJECTIVE To identify vascular mechanisms of brain atrophy in type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients by investigating the relationship between brain volumes and cerebral perfusion and aortic stiffness using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Approval from the local institutional review board was obtained, and patients gave informed consent. Fifty-one type 1 DM patie...

Background: Previous studies reported default mode network (DMN) and limbic (LIN) brain perfusion deficits in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), frequently a prodromal stage of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, the validity these measures as AD markers has not yet been tested using MRI arterial spin labeling (ASL). Objective: To investigate convergent discriminant DMN LIN...
