UNLABELLED Children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) have been hypothesized to continuously monitor their speech through auditory feedback to minimize speech errors. We used an auditory masking paradigm to determine the effect of attenuating auditory feedback on speech in 30 children: 9 with CAS, 10 with speech delay, and 11 with typical development. The masking only affected the speech o...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Carotid artery stenting (CAS) is emerging as an alternative to carotid endarterectomy for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis (CS), but the effect of CAS on the cognitive function of patients with severe CS has not been fully investigated. The aim of this study was to use comprehensive neuropsychological tests to determine the effect of CAS on cognitive function from...

BACKGROUND Occurrence of a stroke is a major concern in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). It remains uncertain whether significant asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis (CAS) is associated with stroke incidence in such patients. AIM To investigate the incidence of cerebrovascular events, myocardial infarction (MI), and death in patients with a significant asymptomatic...

We consider the automatic determination of application-specific memory subsystems via superoptimization, with the goals of reducing memory access time and of minimizing writes. The latter goal is of concern for memories with limited write endurance. Our subsystems outperform general-purpose memory subsystems in terms of performance, number of writes, or both.

Background: Human skin more than any other part of the body, is exposed to the risks of diseases and complications of labor. One of the applications of study on the relationship between skin and diseases is use of fingerprints in the diagnosis and the subsequent treatment of it. We analyzed the fingerprint images of two systematic diseases namely diabetes and addiction. Methods: The f...

Hypertrophic terminally differentiated cardiac myocytes show increased sarcomeric organization and altered gene expression. Previously, we established a role for the nonreceptor tyrosine kinase Src in signaling cardiac myocyte hypertrophy. Here we report evidence that p130Cas (Cas) and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) regulate this process. In neonatal cardiac myocytes, tyrosine phosphorylation of C...
