We introduce the notion of positive local combinatorial dividing-lines in model theory. We show these are equivalently characterized by indecomposable algebraically trivial Fraïssé classes and by complete prime lter classes. We exhibit the relationship between this and collapse-ofindiscernibles dividing-lines. We examine several test cases, including those arising from various classes of hyperg...

This paper uses the adoption and invention of the spinning jenny as a test case to understand why the industrial revolution occurred in Britain in the eighteenth century rather than in France or India. It is shown that wages were much higher relative to capital prices in Britain than in other countries. Calculation of the profitability of adopting the spinning jenny shows that it was profitable...

We computationally verify that certain group ring elements obtained from the first derivatives of abelian L-functions at the origin annihilate ideal class groups. In our test cases, these ideal class groups are connected with cyclic extensions of degree 6 over real quadratic fields.

A Howell design of side s and order 2n, or more briefly an H(s, 2n), is an s x s array in which each cell is either empty or contains an unordered pair of elements from some (2n)-set V such that (1) every element of V occurs in precisely one cell of each row and each column, and (2) every unordered pair of elements from V is in at most one cell of the array. It follows immediately from the defi...

Boundary is especially fault-prone to system. Aim at the model-based logic coverage criteria with little regard to the boundary, this paper proposes a series of model-based logical boundary coverage criteria. These criteria are used to generate test cases automatically. Results show that test cases satisfying these criteria can detect more errors than original logic coverage criteria. They not ...

A crucially important adequacy test of any theory of speech acts is its ability to handle performatives. This paper provides a theory of performatives as a test case for our rationally based theory of illocutionary acts. We show why \I request you. . ." is a request, and \I lie to you that p" is self-defeating. The analysis supports and extends earlier work of theorists such as Bach and Harnish...
