Two batches of unfed Rhipicephalus simus nymphae carrying Anaplasma marginale were incubated for 72 h and 96 h respectively at 37 degrees C. Fifty ticks were triturated at a time and the homogenates were used to infect susceptible cattle. Others were prefed on a bovine host for 72 h before tick suspensions were prepared. The same procedure was followed, using a single batch of infected adult ti...

The efficacy of orally administered powdered aloe juice (Aloe ferox) was evaluated against ticks on cattle and against ticks and fleas on dogs. Twelve calves were each infested over a 25-day period with approximately 4000 larvae of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) decoloratus and allocated to 3 groups of 4 calves each. Three days after the last larval infestation and daily for 22 days thereafter, the ...

Banna viruses (BAVs) have been isolated from pigs, cattle, ticks, mosquitoes, and human encephalitis patients. We isolated and analyzed 20 BAVs newly isolated in China; this finding extends the distribution of BAVs from tropical zone to north temperate climates and demonstrate regional variations in BAV phylogeny and mosquito species possibly involved in BAV transmission.

Aspergillus flavus has been found to be an effective entomopathogenic fungus for various arthropods, including ticks. In particular, natural fungal infections in cattle ticks show promise biocontrol of the Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus tick, which is a major ectoparasite affecting worldwide. Our study aimed elucidate specific virulence factors encoded genome A. strain isolated from natura...

Acaricide resistance is a major problem that hinders the control of the cattle tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus in Mexico. Permethrin (P), cypermethrin (C) and zeta-cypermethrin (Z) have been used to control R. (B.) microplus, and tick populations have developed resistance to these acaricides. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a mixture containing P, C, o...
