Characterizing protein function is a crucial part of understanding biological systems. Here we improve protein function prediction by accounting for data quality issues inherent in protein-protein interaction (PPI) databases. To accomplish this, we incorporate confidence information into the function prediction pipeline. The model pipeline uses weighted majority voting on the proteinprotein int...
Characterizing the wind speed distribution properly is essential for satisfactory production of potential energy in farms, being mixture models usually employed description such data. However, some commonly have undesirable property non-identifiability. In this work, we present an alternative which able to fit data decently. The new model, called Normal-Weibull-Weibull, identifiable and its cum...
This paper is devoted to characterizing so-called order isomorphisms intertwining the $$L^2$$ -semigroups of two quasi-regular Dirichlet forms. We first show that every unitary isomorphism semigroups composition h-transformation and quasi-homeomorphism. In addition, under assumption underlying spaces admit irreducible decompositions for forms, (not necessarily unitary) can be expressed as h-tra...
We introduce a characterization of contraction for bounded convex sets. For discrete-time multi-agent systems we provide an explicit upperbound on the rate of convergence to a consensus under the assumptions of contractiveness and (weak) connectedness (across an interval.) Convergence is shown to be exponential when either the system or the function characterizing the contraction is linear.
The mammalian lens generates an internal microcirculation that maintains transparency in the avascular lens. Significant progress has been made in characterizing the membrane transport proteins associated with this circulation. By combining physiological and molecular evidence, a more comprehensive understanding of normal lens function and cataractogenesis is emerging.
Many bacteria can degrade a variety of proteins and utilize the resulting peptides and amino acids to synthesize their own cellular components. They can also catabolize amino acids as a means of providing some of the energy (ATP) needed for cellular function. Microorganisms vary from species to species with regard to their proteolytic ability, so these features can be useful when characterizing...
The albedo and dichroic polarization of spheroidal particles are studied. For the description of the phase function two asymmetry parameters g|| and g⊥ characterizing the anisotropy in forward/backward and left/right directions are introduced and calculated. The consideration is based on the solution to the light scattering problem by the Separation of Variables Method (Voshchinnikov and Farafo...
A double-Gaussian model and the Schmidt modes are found for the biphoton wave function characterizing spontaneous parametric down-conversion with the degenerate collinear phase-matching of the type I and with a pulsed pump. The obtained results are valid for all durations of the pump pulses, short, long and intermediately long.
