The aim of this study was identification of fungi in indoor and outdoor of asthmatic patients home environment. Opened plates (containing of Malt extract agar media) were used for isolation of fungi in the air of indoor (n=360) and outdoor (n=180) of 90 asthmatic patients home living in the city of Sari at the level of breathing height. Plates were incubated in room temperature for 7-14 days. T...
OBJECTIVE Indoor environment factors have been associated with risk of asthma exacerbations in children but little is known about their role on asthma hospital readmissions. As children in Western societies continually spend more time indoors, understanding the influence of these factors on asthma exacerbation is important. We examined the role of indoor environmental and lifestyle characterist...
A calendar of fungal spore seasons for Szczecin during 2013 was established using a 7-day volumetric Lanzoni trap. Thirty-five spore taxa were identified. The dominant spore types detected were Cladosporium (66%), Didymella (29%), Alternaria (1.67%), and Leptosphaeria type (1.21%). The spores were present throughout the study year. However, there was a wide daily fluctuation in the concentratio...
A mold is a fungus that grows in the form of multicellular filaments called hyphae. Molds are also called filamentous fungi that can be found both indoors and outdoors [1]. Molds breed best in warm, wet, and humid conditions, and they multiply and reproduce by making spores. No one knows how many species of fungi exist in nature, but estimates range from tens of thousands to perhaps a million o...
The beetle Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer), considered a worldwide pest in the poultry industry, is difficult to control and it is a vector for pathogens. The objective of this study was to evaluate the biological control of the lesser mealworm, by strains of fungi Beauveria bassiana, Cladosporium sp. and Trichoderma sp. Larvae and adults of the A. diaperinus were inoculated with suspensions of...
Microbiological contamination with fungi, including moulds, can pose a significant health hazard to those working in archives or museums. The species involved include Aspergillus, Penicillium, Geotrichum, Alternaria, Cladosporium, Mucor, Rhizopus, Trichoderma, Fusarium which are associated mostly with allergic response of different types. The aim of the study was to analyse, both in quantitativ...
The morphological and physiological characteristics of 44 isolates of Exophiala werneckii recovered from human and environmental sources were indistinguishable from 2 isolates that caused tinea nigra. Casein hydrolysis and inability to decompose tyrosine differentiate E. werneckii from Exophiala jeanselmei, Exophiala spinifera, and Wangiella dermatitidis.
