Recent quantitative modeling of dorsal closure in the fruitfly Drosophila has revealed how multiple forces drive sealing of the two symmetrical epithelial sheets. A predictive model based on the new data allows gene function to be linked to the forces that drive tissue movement.

In this paper it is shown how non-pointed exactness provides a framework which allows a simple categorical treatment of the basics of KuroshAmitsur radical theory in the non-pointed case. This is made possible by a new approach to semi-exactness, in the sense of the first author, using adjoint functors. This framework also reveals how categorical closure operators arise as radical theories.

We give a complete solution to the G-closure problem for mixtures of two well ordered possibly anisotropic conductors. Both the G-closure with fixed volume fractions and the full G-closure are computed. The conductivity tensors are considered in a fixed frame and no rotations are allowed.
