This paper proposes a kernel to kernel communication system for use in cluster computers. It is implemented directly on the Ethernet data link layer. This allows use of Ethernet’s inherent broadcast capability. This system is implemented and performance tests are run. The results show significant improvement in broadcast performance.
In this paper we present a parallel implementation for solving the string matching problem. Experiments are realized using the Message Passing Interface (MPI) library on a cluster of personal computers, interconnected by a high-performance Fast Ethernet network. Significant speedup was achieved using different text sizes and number of processors.
There are many applications which can benefit from parallelisation. Employing clusters of computers provides a method to utilise commodity components, minimising cost and and maximising longevity of the individual parts. We present three popular applications; web-servers, ray tracing algorithms and data mining, and report how cluster technology can be applied.
Modern X-ray systems used in research are equipped with computers. To modernize the ava ilable systems which are not attached to such computers and in order to have a rapid access to the data extracted from the system. furnishing such systems seems necessary. In this paper a research conducted at the university ofTabriz to arrive at the above mentioned aims and to have an access to tbe re...
Flipping the priority: effects of prioritising HTC jobs on energy consumption in a multi-use cluster
High Throughput Computing (HTC) through the use of volunteer computing provides a compelling opportunity to perform large volumes of computation without the need to invest in computational resources. This relies on the good will of computer owners who volunteer their computer idle time. In scenarios when there is contention the HTC system will relinquish the computer – normally achieved through...
Beowulf systems are high performance computers constructed from commodity hardware connected by a private internal network and running an open source operating system infrastructure. This tutorial will cover design, installation, deployment and running Beowulf clusters. It will be focused on the Scyld Beowulf system, and will include specific examples and a complete cluster installation CD-ROM.

Abstract Background and Aim: The use of computers has become mandatory for doing every kind of work in recent years, and fewer professionals can be found on which to perform the functions without computers. One of the most common complaints of computer users is ocular problems. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of ocular symptoms in ...
Cluster systems, using commercially available personal computers connected in a loosely coupled fashion can provide high levels of availability. To improve the availability of personal computer-based Active/Standby cluster systems, we have conducted a study of software rejuvenation that follows a proactive fault-tolerant approach to handle software-origin system failure. In this paper, we map s...
Personal computer/Workstation (PC/WS) clusters are promising candidates for future high performance computers, because of their good scalability and cost performance ratio. Data intensive applications, such as data mining and ad hoc query processing in databases, are considered very important for massively parallel processors, as well as conventional scientific calculations. Thus, investigating...
