Recently a non-starch-fermenting strain of C. ulcerans was isolated and a strain which did not hydrolyse urea when first isolated has also been discovered. For full identification of C. ulcerans both intradermal and subcutaneous tests in guinea-pigs are required, and it is recommended that these tests should be carried out with all organisms which culturally and morphologically resemble diphthe...

The potential for production of chemicals from microalgal biomass has been considered as an alternative route for CO₂ mitigation and establishment of biorefineries. This study presents the development of consolidated bioprocessing for succinate production from microalgal biomass using engineered Corynebacterium glutamicum. Starch-degrading and succinate-producing C. glutamicum strains produced ...

The genome of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis MB20 bv. equi was sequenced using the Ion Personal Genome Machine (PGM) platform, and showed a size of 2,363,089 bp, with 2,365 coding sequences and a GC content of 52.1%. These results will serve as a basis for further studies on the pathogenicity of C. pseudotuberculosis bv. equi.

In an effort to identify Corynebacterium group JK isolates rapidly, Rapid Identification Method (RIM series; Austin Biological Laboratories, Inc., Austin, Tex.) substrates were tested in parallel with conventional substrates. RIM reactions agreed with conventional substrate results, respectively, as follows: urea, 38 of 38; nitrate, 35 of 38; glucose, 35 of 38; maltose, 28 of 38; sucrose, 37 of...

This report describes the draft genome sequence of Corynebacterium amycolatum strain ICIS 53, isolated from the reproductive tract of a healthy woman. The size of the genome was 2,460,257 bp (58.98% G+C content). Annotation revealed 2,173 coding sequences, including 2,076 proteins, 7 rRNA genes, and 53 tRNA genes.

An unusual black-pigmented coryneform bacterium was isolated from the urogenital tract of a woman who experienced a spontaneous abortion during month 6 of pregnancy. Biochemical and chemotaxonomic analyses demonstrated that the unknown bacterium belonged to the genus Corynebacterium. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA sequences (GenBank accession no. AF220220) revealed that the organism wa...

Corynebacterium ihumii strain GD7(T) sp. nov. is proposed as the type strain of a new species, which belongs to the family Corynebacteriaceae of the class Actinobacteria. This strain was isolated from the fecal flora of a 62 year-old male patient, as a part of the culturomics study. Corynebacterium ihumii is a Gram positive, facultativly anaerobic, nonsporulating bacillus. Here, we describe the...

We describe severe necrohemorrhagic cystitis in a female rhesus macaque and a female cynomolgus macaque due to colonization of the urinary bladder by Corynebacterium sp. Clinically, both macaques presented with perineal bleeding and depression and, despite extensive and prolonged treatment, succumbed to the disease. At necropsy, the contents of the urinary bladders in both cases were hemorrhagi...

A study was conducted to determine some of the factors affecting the P requirement for the biodegradation of p-nitrophenol, phenol, and glucose by Pseudomonas and Corynebacterium strains. Mineralization of glucose was rapid and the Pseudomonas sp. grew extensively in solutions with 5 and 10 mM phosphate, but the rate and extent of degradation were low and the bacterial population never became a...
