Improved prediction of optimal N fertilizer rates for corn (Zea mays L.) can reduce N losses and increase profits. We tested the ability of the Agricultural Production Systems sIMulator (APSIM) to simulate corn and soybean (Glycine max L.) yields, the economic optimum N rate (EONR) using a 16-year field-experiment dataset from central Iowa, USA that included two crop sequences (continuous corn ...

The paper describes a simplified dynamic model of a greenhouse tomato crop, and the optimal control problem related to the seasonal benefit of the grower. A HJB formalism is used and the explicit form of the Krotov–Bellman function is obtained for different growth stages. Simulation results are shown. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

We simulated the effects of irrigation on groundwater flow dynamics in the North China Plain by coupling the NIES Integrated Catchment-based Ecohydrology (NICE) model with DSSAT-wheat and DSSAT-maize, two agricultural models. This combined model (NICE-AGR) was applied to the Hai River catchment and the lower reach of the Yellow River (530 km wide by 840 km long) at a resolution of 5 km. It repr...

railway service terminals are the places of a railway network usually equipped with costly technology based on highly complicated technological procedures demanding a high degree of coordination and control skills. design of these systems and the organization of their operation should facilitate reaching to the required capacity together with high quality of service processes as well as minimal...

Intraseasonal water allocation to a single crop has been studied extensively. Previous studies have emphasized the need to coordinate irrigation scheduling with several factors including economic and physical constraints, amount of soil moisture available at the time of irrigations, growth stage of the plant, interactive effects from previous and/or subsequent irrigation, and the effect, timing...

Better irrigation management and more efficient management of crop production require modeling of plant growth and crop yield. More applicable models are usually simple and requires less and accessible inputs. The objective of this study was to develop a model for growth and yield prediction of saffron under various irrigation regimes. In this modeling soil water budget and other simple rel...

A non-homogeneous hidden Markov model (NHMM) is used to make stochastic simulations of March–August daily rainfall at 10 stations over the southeastern United States, 1923–98. Station-average observed daily rainfall is prescribed as an input to the NHMM, which is then used to disaggregate the rainfall in space. These rainfall simulations are then used as inputs to a CERES crop model for maize. ...

Remnant areas hosting natural vegetation in agricultural landscapes can impact the disease epidemiology and evolutionary dynamics of crop pathogens. However, the potential consequences for crop diseases of the composition, the spatial configuration and the persistence time of the agro-ecological interface - the area where crops and remnant vegetation are in contact - have been poorly studied. H...

The task of modern agriculture is to safeguard the production of high quality food, in a sustainable natural environment under the precondition of pollution not exceeding accepted norms. The sustainability of current land use in agro-ecosystems can be assessed with respect to heavy metal accumulation in soils by balancing the input/ output fluxes. The objectives of this study were to model accu...

To cope with droughts and water scarcity in semi-arid to sub-humid climates require the development of preparedness measures. For irrigated agriculture these include the identification of irrigation scheduling strategies that minimize the water demand with acceptable impacts on yields Those strategies may be produced by simulation and focus on different levels of water demand, from average to d...
