This paper presents a contribution to the development of a theory of CSCL scripts, i.e., an understanding of what happens when learners engage in such scripts. It builds on the Script Theory of Guidance (SToG) recently proposed by (Fischer et al., 2013). We argue that, when engaged in a collaborative situation structured by a CSCL script, what learners consider is not “the script”, but their ap...

The OCR technology for Indian documents is in emerging stage and most of these Indian OCR systems can read the documents written in only a single script. As many commercial and official documents of different states of India are tri-lingual in nature, therefore identification of script and/ or language is one of the elementary tasks for multi-script document recognition. A script recognizer sim...

Scanline surveys consist of directional and qualitative measurements of rock discontinuities. These surveys are used in geologic and engineering investigations of fractured rock masses. This paper introduces a new MATLAB script developed for visualizing results from scanline surveys as traces in 2D and disks in 3D. The script is also able to cluster orientation data and to present statistical s...

In a multi script environment, majority of the documents may contain text information printed in more than one script/language. For automatic processing of such documents through Optical Character Recognition (OCR), it is necessary to identify different script regions of the document. In this paper, it is proposed to develop a model to identify the script type of a trilingual document printed i...

In a multi-lingual country like India, in most of the official papers, school text books, magazines, it is observed that English words intersperse within the Indian regional languages. So a bilingual Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system is needed which can recognize these bilingual documents and store it for future use. In this paper authors present an OCR system developed for the script ...

This work analyzes a case of computer-supported scripted collaboration, focusing on how students’ self-organization affected the actual collaboration script during script run-time. Two groups of students studied learning material using a web environment designed for supporting case-based learning. The first group followed a non-scaffolded individual mode of study while students in the second gr...

Physical libraries store materials written in various languages, at various periods in history, and dealing with various cultures. As a result, large digital library projects such as Europeana, World Digital Library, HathiTrust, and Google Book Search have collections spanning different languages, periods, and cultures. This diversity complicates information access, in part because the grammars...

In the paper, we analyze the distribution of complexities in the Vai script, an indigenous syllabic writing system from Liberia. It is found that the uniformity hypothesis for complexities fails for this script. The models using Poisson distribution for the number of components and hyper-Poisson distribution for connections provide good fits in the case of the Vai script.

Background Previous studies have demonstrated that video of and scripted information about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can be deployed during clinician-patient end-of-life discussions. Few studies, however, examine whether video adds to verbal information-sharing. We hypothesized that video augments script-only decision-making. Methods Patients aged >65 years admitted to hospital ward...
