With this work we elaborate on the physics of quantum noise in thermal equilibrium and in stationary nonequilibrium. Starting out from the celebrated quantum fluctuation-dissipation theorem we discuss some important consequences that must hold for open, dissipative quantum systems in thermal equilibrium. The issue of quantum dissipation is exemplified with the fundamental problem of a damped ha...

The phenomenon of effective phase synchronization in stochastic oscillatory systems can be quantified by an average frequency and a phase diffusion coefficient. A different approach to compute the noise-averaged frequency is put forward. The method is based on a threshold crossing rate pioneered by Rice. After the introduction of the Rice frequency for noisy systems we compare this quantifier w...

We study a large population of globally coupled phase oscillators subject to common white Gaussian noise and find analytically that the critical coupling strength between oscillators for synchronization transition decreases with an increase in the intensity of common noise. Thus, common noise promotes the onset of synchronization. Our prediction is confirmed by numerical simulations of the phas...

A novel scheme for the steady state solution of the standard Redfield quantum master equation is developed which yields agreement with the exact result for the corresponding reduced density matrix up to second order in the system-bath coupling strength. We achieve this objective by use of an analytic continuation of the off-diagonal matrix elements of the Redfield solution towards its diagonal ...

Ferromagnetic nanoconstrictions can serve as integrate-and-fire neurons, communicating via spin-wave pulses analogous to neural spikes. The nanoconstriction geometry leads easy-plane oscillators which manifest phase dynamics damped driven oscillators. authors propose a sample where undergo slips and produce of signals when triggered by small spin torque. They show with the help macrospin modeli...

A complete variational treatment is provided for a family of spiked-harmonic oscillator Hamiltonians H = − d dx2 + Bx + λ x (B > 0, λ > 0 ), for arbitrary α > 0 . A compact topological proof is presented that the set S = {ψn} of known exact solutions for α = 2 constitutes an orthonormal basis of the Hilbert space L2(0,∞) . Closed-form expressions are derived for the matrix elements of H with re...

The effects of noise on phase synchronization (PS) of coupled chaotic oscillators are explored. In contrast to coupled periodic oscillators, noise is found to enhance phase synchronization significantly below the threshold of PS. This constructive role of noise has been verified experimentally with chaotic electrochemical oscillators of the electrodissolution of Ni in sulfuric acid solution.

Within the framework of the recently proposed formalism using non-hermitean Hamiltonians constrained merely by their PT invariance we describe a new exactly solvable family of the harmonic-oscillator-like potentials with non-equidistant spectrum. PACS 03.65.Ge, 03.65.Fd
