INTRODUCTION Inflammation plays a key role in the progression of intervertebral disc degeneration, a condition strongly implicated as a cause of lower back pain. The objective of this study was to investigate the therapeutic potential of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microspheres loaded with interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) for sustained attenuation of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β...
Acinetobacter guillouiae strain 20B can utilize dimethyl sulfide (DMS) as the sole sulfur source and degrade chloroethylenes. We report here the complete 4,648,418-bp genome sequence for this strain, which contains 4,367 predicted coding sequences (CDSs), including a well-characterized DMS degradative operon.
We describe a modified procedure for quantitating plasma fibrinogen by use of the thrombin-clottable protein technique. The method is accurate and requires a0out 30 min to complete. During its formation and isolation, the clot is protected from the degradative action of plasmin by an inhibitor, epsilon-aminocaproic acid.
Lysosomes support cellular homeostasis by degrading macromolecules and recycling nutrients. In this issue, Johnson et al. (2016. J. Cell Biol. http://dx.doi.org/10.1083/jcb.201507112) reveal a heterogeneity in lysosomal pH and degradative ability that correlates with lysosome subcellular localization, raising questions about the functional implications and mechanisms underlying these observations.
The ecacy of the oxidation pond on the outskirts of the 10th of Ramadan, the main industrial city, in Egypt was examined. Samples of wastewater collected from the inlet and the outlet were screened for some priority pollutants. Acenaphthene and ̄uorene were the most frequently detected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, while dimethyl phthalate was the most frequently detected phthalate ester. ...
