The main objective of the work reported here is to assess factors that could affect the outcome of a proposed open flame test for barrier fabrics (BF-open flame test). The BF-open flame test characterizes barrier effectiveness by monitoring the ignition of a flexible polyurethane foam (FPUF) layer placed in contact with the upper side of the barrier fabric, exposed to a burner flame from below....

Natural dye extracted from aerial parts of Barleria prionitis and different kinds of textile fabrics dyed with the natural dye were investigated for their antifungal activity. Antifungal activity of natural dye and dyed fabrics was assessed against standard strains of five fungi namely Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, A. parasiticus, Fusarium moniliforme and Penicillium canescens using agar-we...

Terminos Lagoon ecosystem is the largest fluvial-lagoon estuarine system in the country and one of the most important reserves of coastal flora and fauna in Mexico. Since the seventies, part of the main infrastructure for country's oil extraction is located in this area. Its high biodiversity has motivated different type of studies including deforestation processes and land use planning. In thi...

Pressure garments are the main method of treatment and prophylaxis for hypertrophic burn scars. The pressure they exert on the scarred skin prevents contractures forming, reduces the itchiness and pruritus associated with active hypertrophic scars, and is believed, by many, to hasten normalization of the scar tissue. The pressure exerted is believed to be critical to treatment success and can b...

Amongst the different property parameters of the produced fabric, drapeability of fabric is one of the crucial parameters with respect to end uses. It is the ability of fabric to hang freely in graceful folds when some area of it is supported over a surface and the rest is unsupported. During the application of different fabrics, both in industrial and apparel sector, it has been observed that ...

During recent years, the fabrics made from different yarns have been used for industrial purposes such as composite materials. Given the importance of the shear properties of these fabrics, a mechanical model based on the Grosberg and Park's Model for hybrid plain-woven fabrics is proposed. In this model, using the Energy method, the initial load-shear angle behavior of hybrid fabrics is calcul...

This article presents a simple, one-step, in situ generation of silver nanoparticle-functionalized fabrics with antibacterial properties, circumventing the conventional, multistep, time-consuming methods. Silver nanoparticle formation was studied with a library of capping agents (branched polyethylenimine [BPEI] of molecular weight [Mw] 10,000 and 25,000, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyethylene glyc...

Fabrics are typical porous material and can be treated as mixtures of fibers and air. There is no clearly defined boundary and is different from a classical continuum for fabrics. It is complex to proceed with the theoretical analysis of fabric behavior. There are two main reasons (Hearle et al., 1969) for developing the geometrical structures of fabrics. One is to be able to calculate the resi...

Highly-flexible thermoelectric fabrics were fabricated based on a layered structure, composed of a thin active layer of self-assembled tellurium nanorods and a substrate layer of polyvinylidene fluoride. The resulting thermoelectric fabrics show a high room temperature power factor of 45.8 μW m(-1) K(-2), which opens a new avenue to fabricate highly-flexible sustainable energy sources.

The cellulosic fabrics bearing the porphyrin as a photo-sensitizer were done in order to prepare efficient polymeric materials for antimicrobial applications. The obtained porphyrin-grafted cellulosic fabrics were characterized by ATRFTIR, DRUV spectroscopy, TG and SEM image. The antimicrobial activity of the products was tested under visible light irradiation against Staphylococcus aureus, Pse...
