Superoxide-scavenging activities of 60 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines were determined accurately by an electron spin resonance (ESR) spin-trapping technique using 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline 1-oxide (DMPO) as a spin-trapping reagent. As a source of superoxide in this method, superoxide generated by one-electron reduction of the oxygen molecule in dimethyl sulfoxide solution was used. As a resul...

Twenty hatchling chickens were injected intravitreally every 4 days from day 2 to day 16 with dimethyl sulphoxide (DS) in one eye and DS or formoguanamine dissolved in DS (FG.DS) with or without occlusion in the other (FG.DS.MD, DS.MD, FG.DS). At day 16, the FG.DS.MD eyes failed to show the high refractive myopia and showed less axial elongation than that developed by the DS.MD eyes. Electroret...

In the mol-ecule of the title compound, [InCl(3)(C(12)H(12)N(2))(C(2)H(6)OS)], the In(III) atom is six-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral configuration by two N atoms from the chelating 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine ligand, one O atom from dimethyl sulfoxide and three Cl atoms. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into centrosymmetric dimers.

The self-assembly of tubulin devoid of microtubuleassociated proteins (MAPs) has been studied using a MES buffer containing dimethyl sulfoxide (MezSO). Between 6% and 12% v/v MeZSO, the tubulin forms polymers which resemble microtubules in their morphology and chemical properties. These MezSO microtubules, like normal microtubules, require GTP for assembly and are sensitive to cold, calcium ion...

The metal atom of the title salt, [Co(C(2)H(6)OS)(6)](NO(3))(3), is coordinated by six dimethyl sulfoxide mol-ecules in an octa-hedral geometry. The metal atom lies on a special position of site symmetry. One of the nitrate ions lies on a special position of 3 site symmetry and the other independent ion is disordered about a special position of site symmetry.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C(13)H(10)N)(2)[PtCl(6)]·2C(2)H(6)OS, contains one independent protonated phenanthridinium cation, half of a centrosymmetric [PtCl(6)](2-)anion and one dimethyl sulfoxide solvent mol-ecule. Intra-molecular N-H⋯O and inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions seem to be effective in the stabilization of the structure.

The title compound, [Tl(C(2)H(6)OS)(6)](NO(3))(3), consists of six dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) mol-ecules coordinated to a Tl(III) atom, which lies on a axis, and three nitrate anions (3. symmetry) to neutralize the charge. The coordination polyhedron around the Tl(III) atom is octa-hedral, defined by six O atoms of the DMSO mol-ecules. In the crystal structure, C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are observed....
