BACKGROUND The Absolute cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk evaluation using multivariable CVD risk models is increasingly advocated in people with HIV, in whom existing models remain largely untested. We assessed the agreement between the general population derived Framingham CVD risk equation and the HIV-specific Data collection on Adverse effects of anti-HIV Drugs (DAD) CVD risk equation in HI...

INTRODUCTION We evaluate the association between caregiver (informal) time/cost and illness severity from two recently completed clinical trials of an investigational drug for Alzheimer's disease (AD). METHODS Changes from baseline caregiver time were calculated and treatment effects analyzed using a restricted maximum likelihood-based mixed model for repeated measures. Four separate models w...

OBJECTIVE To determine the best means of detecting hearing disability in subjects aged 50-65 and whether rehabilitative intervention is acceptable in this age group. DESIGN Questionnaire survey of patients on general practice age-sex registers. Two types of questionnaire were used, one being based on the closed set approach of the Institute of Hearing Research questionnaire, which had been us...

BACKGROUND The non-image-forming effects of luminous radiation on people with intellectual disabilities or dementia received attention from researchers. Such studies, however, have generally been conducted using disparate methodologies which precludes generalization and reproducibility. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to determine the practical applicability of measurement devices for stu...

Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) is the most widely used clinical scale to evaluate levels of multiple sclerosis (MS). As MS can lead to disruptions in the regulation of balance and the disability can be evaluated by force platform posturography, we have developed in this study a new strategy to estimate EDSS from posturographic data. 118 volunteers with EDSS ranging from 0 to 4.5 partic...

We describe artificial DNA molecules exclusively consisting of four types of alkynyl C-nucleotides with nonnatural bases. The artificial DNA exhibited almost the same characteristics as natural DNA, such as in regard to the stepwise duplex and triplex formation and the right-handed higher-order structure with an antiparallel alignment fashion.

Ultra‐precision machine tool is the most important physical tool to machining the workpiece with the frequency domain error requirement, in the design process of which the dynamic accuracy design (DAD) is indispensable and the related research is rarely available. In light of above reasons, a DAD method of ultra‐precision machine tool is proposed in this paper, which is based on the frequency d...

Duplicate address detection (DAD) is an important component of the address resolution protocol (ARP) and the neighbor discovery protocol (NDP). DAD determines whether an IP address is in conflict with other nodes. In traditional DAD, the target address to be detected is broadcast through the network, which provides convenience for malicious nodes to attack. A malicious node can send a spoofing ...

OBJECTIVE To prospectively characterize the relation between 1-year changes in neurologist ratings of abnormalities as measured by means of the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) and changes in observations of functional impairment as measured by means of the Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite (MSFC) in the clinical assessment of multiple sclerosis (MS). METHODS One hundred twenty p...
