An enzymatic method for ready access to D-sedoheptulose-7-phosphate on a preparative scale was developed, based on the irreversible transketolase-catalyzed reaction: β-hydroxypyruvate + D-ribose-5phosphate → D-sedoheptulose-7-phosphate.
