OBJECTIVES This study was designed to determine the effects of folic acid therapy on endothelial function in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). BACKGROUND Hyperhomocysteinemia, a risk factor for CAD, may cause atherosderosis by oxidative endothelial injury. Folic acid reduces plasma homocysteine, but the effect on adverse vascular events is unknown. METHODS In a double-blind place...
We tested the hypothesis that reductions in vascular endothelial function (endothelium-dependent dilation, EDD) with age are related to increases in sympathetic activity. Among 314 healthy men and women, age was inversely related to brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD) (r = -0.30, P < 0.001), a measure of EDD, and positively related to plasma norepinephrine concentrations (PNE), a marke...
We present an analysis of historical multi-wavelength emission the Changing Look (CL) Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) in NGC 2992, covering epochs ranging from 1978 to 2021, as well new X-ray and optical spectra. The galaxy presents multiple Seyfert type transitions 2 intermediate-type, losing regaining its H$\alpha$ BEL recurrently. In X-rays, source shows intrinsic variability with absorption c...

We consider the uniform parallel machine scheduling problem with the objective of minimizing maximum lateness. We show that an extension of the EDD rule to a uniform parallel machine setting yields a maximum lateness value which does not exceed the optimal value by more than pmax, where pmax is the maximum job processing time. c © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
