Abstract Virus sensing is earning great interest for recognition of dangerous and widely spread diseases, such as influenza A (virus subtypes H1N1, H3N2 etc), severe acute respiratory syndrome, Middle East syndrome etc. Many molecular biological techniques have been developed adopted virus detection purposes. These show some drawbacks concerning long collection time data analysis, sensitivity, ...

Received October 4, 2002 Abstract There has been long standing concern about the safety of measles-mumps-rubella vaccine in children with history of egg allergy. We review our experience in vaccinating such children in our hospital over a fouryear period. Clinical evidences on the risk of anaphylactic reaction after measles-mumps-rubella vaccination is reviewed. A revised recommendation for the...

SPF-eggs are used for the production and control of vaccines for humans and animals. This presentation describes the major areas in which embryonated SPF-eggs are used. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of using these eggs in production and control of vaccines will be discussed in comparison to conventional eggs on the one hand and cell lines which are derived from SPF-eggs on the o...

A trivalent parainfluenza virus vaccine has been tested in guinea pigs. The parainfluenza 2 virus vaccine component was superior in the magnitude of antibody titers, and in the ability to convert animals serologically after two doses of an undiluted or a 10-fold diluted vaccine. The parainfluenza 1 virus vaccine gave a higher percentage of conversion than parainfluenza 3 virus vaccine after adm...

Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus was detected in breeding turkeys on 2 farms in Valparaiso, Chile. Infection was associated with measurable declines in egg production and shell quality. Although the source of infection is not yet known, the outbreak was controlled, and the virus was eliminated from the birds.

To determine the epidemiology of outbreaks of avian influenza A virus (subtypes H5N1, H9N2) in chickens in Bangladesh, we conducted surveys and examined virus isolates. The outbreak began in backyard chickens. Probable sources of infection included egg trays and vehicles from local live bird markets and larger live bird markets.

Vertical transmission of dengue type 1 virus was demonstrated by a strain of Haemagogus equinus mosquitoes from Panama. Parental females were infected by intrathoracic inoculation and egg production was stimulated by feeding on mice. Dengue 1 virus was detected in fourth instar larval progeny obtained from two installment hatches of eggs. Minimum filial infection rates ranged up to 1:495.

Background and Aims: Rubella virus is a human pathogen that causes congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) when infection occurs during early pregnancy. Vaccination programs have been remarkably successful in controlling natural rubella infection and CRS. Moreover, ongoing surveillance for all cases of rubella and CRS is a vital component of a prevention program. Although the WHO recommends the use o...
