We explore phenomenologies of the topflavour model for the LEP experiment at m Z scale and the atomic parity violation (APV) experiment in the Cs atoms at low energies. Implications of the model on the Z peak data are studied in terms of the precision variables ǫ i 's. We find that the LEP data give more stringent constraints on the model parameters than the APV data.

The hydrogen absorption into overlayers of Pd deposited on Au(111) has been investigated by density functional theory (DFT). Hydrogen concentrations, absorption environments, and geometrical and electronic effects have been analyzed, seeking for a better understanding of the general principles governing the process and the effect of foreign supports. The results show that the absorption is more...

BACKGROUND Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) restricts food intake, and when the Roux limb is elongated to 150 cm, the procedure is believed to induce malabsorption. OBJECTIVE Our objective was to measure total reduction in intestinal absorption of combustible energy after RYGB and the extent to which this was due to restriction of food intake or malabsorption of ingested macronutrients. DESI...

The fundamental aim of microtomography methods is to reveal the internal microscopic structure of solid materials, in which the variation of inner properties (such as density, chemical composition and chemical state) strongly influences the X-ray absorption/emission and propagation properties. Unlike other tomographic techniques based on absorption, phase-contrast or X-ray scattering, X-ray flu...

The dynamic impact response of giant buckyball C720 is investigated by using molecular dynamics simulations. The non-recoverable deformation of C720 makes it an ideal candidate for high-performance energy absorption. Firstly, mechanical behaviors under dynamic impact and low-speed crushing are simulated and modeled, which clarifies the buckling-related energy absorption mechanism. One-dimension...

An optofluidic FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer) laser is formed by putting FRET pairs inside a microcavity acting as a gain medium. This integration of an optofluidic laser and the FRET mechanism provides novel research frontiers, including sensitive biochemical analysis and novel photonic devices, such as on-chip coherent light sources and bio-tunable lasers. Here, we investigated...

Shock absorption often needs stiff but lightweight materials that exhibit a large kinetic energy absorption capability. Open-cell metal foams are artificial structures, which due to their plateau stress, including a strong hysteresis, can in principle absorb large amounts of energy. However, their plateau stress is too low for many applications. In this study, we use highly novel and promising ...
