In this work, we have calculated the Joule-Thomson inversion curve of two important associating fluids, namely water and methanol, from the SAFT equation of state. Comparisons with the available experimental data, for water and methanol indicate that this molecular based equation of state gives good prediction of the low temperature branch; but, unfortunately, due to lack of isenthalpic dat...

We investigate low temperature (T ) properties of three classical quantum statistics models: (I) the Fermi-Dirac equation, (II) the Boltzman equation, and (III) the Bose-Einstein equation. It is widely assumed that each of these equations is valid for all T > 0. For each equation we prove that this assumption leads to erroneous predictions as T → 0. Our approach to correct these errors gives ne...

An analytical equation is derived for total triple phase boundary length per unit volume (LTPB) in an isotropic uniform random microstructure of LSM/YSZ composite cathode. The equation is applicable to YSZ and LSM particles of any convex shapes and size distributions. The equation explicitly relates LTPB to the shapes, mean sizes, coefficient of variation (a measure of the spread in a size dist...

In recent years, various chaotic equation based pseudorandom number generators have been proposed, however, the chaotic equations are all defined in the real number field. In this paper, an equation is proposed and proved to be chaotic in the imaginary axis. And a pseudorandom number generator is constructed based on the chaotic equation. The alteration of the definitional domain of the chaotic...

Solubility data were measured for omeprazole sulfide in ethanol, 95 mass-% ethanol, ethyl acetate, isopropanol, methanol, acetone, n-butanol and n-propanol in the temperature range from 280.35 to 319.65 K by employing the gravimetric method. The solubilities increase with temperature and they are in good agreement with the calculated solubility of the modified Apelblat equation and the λh equat...

We present a fourth order numerical solution method for the singular Neumann boundary problem of Poisson equations. Such problems arise in the solution process of incompressible Navier–Stokes equations and in the time-harmonic wave propagation in the frequence space with the zero wavenumber. The equation is first discretized with a fourth order modified Collatz difference scheme, producing a si...

Existence of plastic equation of state has been investigated by performing a series of load relaxation tests at various temperatures using an Al-Li alloy. A plastic equation of state is first developed from a simple kinetics consideration for a mechanical activation process of a leading dislocation piled up against grain boundaries. A series of load relaxation test has been conducted at tempera...

Only some special open surfaces satisfying the shape equation of lipid membranes can be compatible with the boundary conditions. As a result of this compatibility, the first integral of the shape equation should vanish for axisymmetric lipid membranes, from which two theorems of nonexistence are verified: (i) there is no axisymmetric open membrane being a part of torus satisfying the shape equa...

In this paper we propose an improved empirical equation for the bunch lengthening in electron storage rings. The comparisons are made between the analytical and experimental results, and the agreements are quite well. This improved equation can be equally applied to the case where a storage ring is very resistive (such as the improved SLC damping rings) instead of inductive as usual.

Sensitivity analysis generates essential information for model development, design optimization, parameter estimation, optimal control, model reduction and experimental design. In this paper we describe the forward and adjoint methods for sensitivity analysis, and outline some of our recent work on theory, algorithms and software for sensitivity analysis of differential-algebraic equation (DAE)...
