The tumor microenvironment (TME) has been shown to play an important role in initiation, development, and metastasis. Among all TME factors, cancer associated fibroblasts (CAF) have suggested a key role. Two studies reported that from cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) lesions, mycosis fungoides (MF) and/or Sézary syndrome (SS), were hyper-activated exerted pro-tumorigenic activity on CTCL cells ...

The T-cell response to fibronectin attachment protein (FAP-A) in BALB/c and B10.BR mice was examined. Both strains developed strong T-cell responses to FAP-A, directed to single, unique epitopes. T cells from mice infected with Mycobacterium avium responded to FAP-A, suggesting a possible role in a protective immune response.

BACKGROUND Sulindac regresses colorectal adenomas in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), although the mechanism of polyp regression is unclear. AIMS To determine whether differences occur in alteration of rectal epithelial apoptotic index and expression of apoptosis related proteins in FAP patients treated with sulindac compared with placebo. PATIENTS Twenty one FAP patients...

BACKGROUND Accurate measures of the total polyp burden in familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) are lacking. Current assessment tools include polyp quantitation in limited-field photographs and qualitative total colorectal polyp burden by video. OBJECTIVE To develop global quantitative tools of the FAP colorectal adenoma burden. DESIGN A single-arm, phase II trial. PATIENTS Twenty-seven pa...

INTRODUCTION The Singapore Polyposis Registry (SPR) was established in 1989 at the Singapore General Hospital. This initiative was aimed at providing a central registry service to facilitate identification, surveillance and management of families and individuals at high risk of colorectal cancer. The aim of the present study was to provide a comprehensive review of all patients with familial ad...

Attachment of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis to host tissue and penetration of mucosal surfaces are pivotal events in the pathogenesis of Johne's disease. Fibronectin (FN) binding is required for attachment and internalization of several mycobacteria by epithelial cells in vitro. The objective of this study was to further characterize the FN binding activity of M. avium subsp. para...

Background Safety and efficacy of once-daily 20 mg tafamidis, a transthyretin (TTR) stabilizer, was evaluated in an 18-month, multicentre, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 128 patients with early symptomatic V30M TTR familial amyloid polyneuropathy (TTR-FAP). In the intent-to-treat population, a responder analysis for Neuropathy Impairment Score-Lower Limb (NIS-LL) (co-prim...

Machado-Joseph disease [MJD, also spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3)] and familial amyloid polyneuropathy type I (FAP-I or ATTR V30M) are neurodegenerative disorders, inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion, which have a high prevalence in Portugal, probably due to a founder effect. MJD and FAP-I are late-onset diseases, with symptoms emerging usually during adulthood. CGPP, which is the n...

Individuals with heterozygous germline adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) mutations or familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) are born with normal appearing colons but later develop hundreds to thousands of polyps. Tumor progression apparently starts after somatic loss of the normal APC allele, but germline APC mutations may potentially alter niche stem cell survival through dominant-negative inter...

The human fibroblast activation protein (FAP), defined by monoclonal antibody F19, is expressed in vivo in reactive stromal fibroblasts of epi thelial cancers, subsets of bone and soft tissue sarcomas, and granulation tissue of healing wounds. FAP is generally absent from the stroma of benign epithelial tumors and normal adult tissues. In vitro FAP induction is observed in proliferating culture...
